    Volume for Long Hair?

i've got long, layered hair down to probably around my waistline and it's layered from the cheek down. When i wear headbands there is no volume whatsoever and it makes the whole 'headband look' look worse on me b/c i have a round-ish/square-ish face shape. i'm not big into wearing fake hair b/c my hair is long enough and i can never find the right color any way so am i doomed to O.D. on the hairspray? ..c::

any tips on how to give that extra volume, on and off the stage? i've tried blow drying it from the back but doesn't seem to do wonders for me..

My hair stylist friend told me to use a diffuser on the blowdryer for more volume. I haven't really tried them, but there are those really fat velcro rollers that aren't meant to curl, just give volume. My hair's about to the top of my tailbone and very fine, therefore flat, but I don't reallly try to do much with it so I can't help just a whole lot. Oh, have you tried root lifter?

hmm no i haven't. my hair is wavy-ish and so ideally, i would love to create the volume look on top/near my face as to frame it yet keep it curly (or as curly as it can get). that's another issue i have, if i don't try to make it curly it will be straight on top but wavy at the bottom unless i try to either blowdry it straight (don't use flat iron) or scrunch it so it can be curly. so idk if that will affect the volume on top issue as well (hard to get volume when you have a bunch of products in your hair ..c:: )

hmm, i have rather thick hair but like to pump up the volume for performances. If you want to try to play with your waves, I'd do this:
-my hair tends to frizz so I run a smoothing creme through hair
-spray roots with volumizing root lift spray
-use a curl mousse or gel to help encourage your curl to come out, and scrunch hair
-use diffuser to blowdry hair, keeping your head upside down.

If you're trying to keep the hair straight, use the root lift spray and a volumizing mousse. blowdry sections of hair with a large round brush and that concentrated nozzle attachment. I take the hair at my crown and blowdry vertically upwards to further add lift (you could probably do that wherever you need some extra oompf). Finish with hairspray.

Curlers. Root Spray/setting lotion. The ability to do some fine backcombing and coverage. Hairspray.

    Ta-daah!

Unless your hair is like mine is which case it will reject all product; super stiff shellacked hair will eventually turn to soft fine sorta curls.

YOU ARE ME. When my hair was long I had to layer it otherwise I looked like a hedge, with wide hair at the bottom and no volume through the sides. It's the two spots just south of each temple where you need the width, yes? I know this feeling.

For me personally, I ditched headbands or wore them on an angle halfway between hairline and crown. If you are able to pull your hair back from your forehead and wear a band this way, you will probably get volume behind the headband.

I used to dry mine upside down for volume. Big rollers will work. Have you tried actually setting it wet and letting it get bone dry? You'll get root lift that way all right. It's time consuming, though.

zana we have exactly the same hair lol. length cut color and all ^^
i'm really not big on spays, fake hair and stuff. what i do when i want more volume is shower in the evening using a bunch of conditionner, and either put in rollers (but i end up looking like a doll with french curls more often than not), or braid my hair upside down (so you get like a funky palmtree braid coming out the top/front of your head). go to bed like that and let it dry.
the conditionner is so that the next morning you can comb your hair (don't know about yours but mine MUST be comber by brush, if i don't want to spend 20min brushing it). i comb because, if i brushed all the volume would just be brushed out. comb with your head upside down and then just use your fingers once you're back straight in order to remove any weird bumps lol.
it works pretty well if your hair ad the time to dry completely overnight, so don't pull the braid too tight.

Well this is simple and won't get as dramatic an effect as other stuff with more effort, products, etc, but . . . When my hair is wet, I clip it into a "Gibson girl" do (see my avatar for example), by hanging my head completely upside down, gathering it together at the top of my head, twisting and clipping into a very loose (and perhaps sloppy, he he) bun. And I let it dry that way. I don't take the time to blow-dry it but of course one could. This is just a simple way of setting the hair closer to the scalp so it has maximum lift. But if you do it the way I do (just clip it that way and let it dry naturally) you do have to walk around with a pretty silly-looking hair-do for a couple hours.

This is what I used to do, and my daughter does it, too. Her hair is more like yours, very thick. She'd either twist or loosely braid it, then twirl & clip. Usually the ends don't dry very quickly, so when she's ready to take it down she can still quickly dry/style the ends, but the roots have lots of lift that lasts a long time.

I have a friend who keeps her hair clipped up in about four sections ( she loosely twists each section and pins them all together with a giant clip in a loose updo). She takes out the clip as she's arriving at the gig, runs her fingers through the sections, and voila! Big, thick, loose waves!

I have thick curly/wavy hair which goes straight in the winter due to the dry heat. To keep lift and volume I would blow dry my hair with a difuser but hold my head upsidown almost the entire time. I found that this plus a little mouse near the root and a spritz of hair spray (or 20 spritz as it may be) really gave me extra lift towards the scalp.

After I wash my hair, I put curl cream and Redken Rewind in it and twist it in several piecs and clip up on my head. It takes a long time to dry but boy it is a mass of volume and curls when it comes down. (if not completely dry when you take down, use diffuser). Then use Elnett Hairspray from Target and add sparkles and go. I have long, curly/wavy hair - I have a lot of fine hair.
