Insane, fuzzy, light-up, musical Syrian lingerie!

In a cultural context that features designers of bird-in-a-fluffy-nest panties and rose/spiral/butterfly bras, maybe we need to reevaluate what constitutes a crazy-looking dance costume!

It is so nice to know that tacky is a world wide phenomenom.

Wow, I am surprised that Mahmoud is creating these very unusual pieces in a culture which is very strict. Maybe I am wrong and things are changing.

One of my memories of Cairo in the late 80's was the garish undies for sale. Who could forget a pair of black bikini panties with a crotch decorated with green fake fur and a zipper?? ..l;,

LOL - It's still there nowadays and sometimes there are 2 shops in the same city block, each with different equally amazing items!! I wanna see a demo of the remote control undies! ..l;,

This is not an indication that anything is changing at all. As Meissoun said, read the whole article and I recommend that you play the video and you will see that it's been going on for a LONG time and will continue indefinitely. On the street you'll see the conservatism but behind the closed doors of the marital bedroom, anything which spices up a couple's sex life is encouraged. In Islam, sex between a married couple is to be enjoyed fully.

The author points out that in Islam, not sexually satisfying one's spouse can be grounds for divorce.

Actually, the strictness of Islamic culture is NOT the same as the Victorian-style and Puritan-inspired strictness of ours. In our culture, the traditional strictness implied that nice girls don't enjoy sex. Islamic strictness, in contrast, applies only to public behavior and behavior with people you are not married to. But in private, with your husband, it's perfectly fine to get frisky and produce more children.

Hmmm, I wonder if Kathe Alkoudsi, owner of Cartouche, still goes to Damascus now that Tahseen is gone. If so, maybe she could import some of these lovelies for us!

CFerhat, you'll have to ask her for us!

The floral-butterfly-spirally goodness bra.... is rather fabulous.
But to me, it would have a major giggle inducing effect...not ..g.:..g.:..g.: making eyes at my husband effect. I think I'd just be a giggling puddle on the floor in uncontrollable hysterics.
I've had married (Arab) men ask me where they can get belly dance costumes for their wives to wear for them. Married fun is indeed encouraged over there.

Looks like Syrian lingerie is pretty well known and appreciated. There's even a book about it.
The hardcover version seems to be sold out, or out of print. Never fear...there's a paperback version. ..g.:

    Hi all,
Saw Kathe Alkoudsi from Cartouche Imports this weekend. She might be heading to Syria sometime this spring. If you are interested in your very own musical, light-up lingerie ensemble, you can contact her at 785.865.5242 and if she indeed goes she will be happy to peruse the Syrian souks for you.

    Good question!:)

Really, the lingerie stores in Damascus surprised me too...but since I couldn´t find any edible underwear with onion taste I invested in music instead;D

Mostly a rehash of the same material as the other article, but the subject is still going around the Internet:
