For Tattoo Fans only!
This was my daughter's Christmas present this year! Yes, she wanted a tattoo. A very specific tattoo. We went on Monday so this way, she can show it off to everyone tomorrow. This is not the first tattoo gift; she has a tie dye peace sign on her right shoulder blade - her 18th birthday present. ..g.:
I know there are a lot of people who dislike tattoos, but I am obviously not one of them! I have been teasing my daughter, calling her Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox!
The quote was written by Jim Morrison, the ink done by Hunter Spanks at Saints and Sinners in Baltimore.

OW!
It looks beautiful though. I have to say that some of these text tattoos that are now so popular look really striking.
And at least she chose a phrase she's unlikely to change her mind about! It's not "And so the lion fell in love with the lamb" or something equally trendy.

Re: For Tattoo Fans only!
Aww, thank you! I have good kids and they actually like me! ..l;,
The bottom lines were okay, but the top two lines were extremely painful for her. She says, "everything but the top two lines were bearable...". At one point, she was holding my hand so tight I had no feeling in my fingers.
Only one tear fell and I swear, when I saw it, I had to restrain myself from telling Hunter to stop, that he was hurting my baby! Protective Mommy mode kicked in. Of course, I didn't and then realized the irony in that I was paying him to do it!

Stunning! What helped her decide the placement?

Re: For Tattoo Fans only!
She knew she wanted it on her left side basically between the bra strap and hip, but did not want it to extend too far forward or back so once she decided on the size of the words, it was just a matter of figuring out how many on each line. She actually chose much larger lettering than I thought she wanted but I think Hunter did a great job!

Re: For Tattoo Fans only!
that's effing awesome. tell her we all think it's beautiful!
how long did it take? I'm in the consult stage of getting a rather large (5-7hours) piece and I'm hoping it's not any worse than labor. ;)

Beautiful quote. An hour an hour and a half isn't too bad. Braver girl than I. If it's going to take longer than 45 minutes then it is not for me. So, as you can guess, mine are rather small.

wauw what an übercool mom are you! I am still hiding my first (and for now only) tat from my parents (yes I am 24 ,m::). I am always wishing one day she'll turn around, and come with me for my next one, but that will NEVER happen

Re: For Tattoo Fans only!
Not anywhere near as bad as labour, IMO. I nearly fell asleep while getting my tattoo done--a vine of sweet-peas that swoops from my upper arm over my shoulder onto my upper back. The only reason I didn't fall asleep was I was afraid that, if I did, I'd move inadvertently. I didn't think it hurt very much at all, although I expect that some areas of the body hurt more than others, especially when the bone is close to the skin. I noticed that, for me, the worst part was near the top of the shoulder blade, but even that wasn't horrible.

Re: For Tattoo Fans only!
I have 3, and the only one that bothered me at all was on my hip/lower back, it's a spiral and the higher up parts were a bit intense. One on my calf and on my shoulder were no problem at all. Less painful than getting wax, that's for sure!
I'd get more but my tattoo guy left town!

Re: For Tattoo Fans only!
Since I'm getting my first tat in about 18 months, I ask everyone I see who has lower back ink what their experience was.
Most tell me something like "Not TOO bad", but one lady I spoke with a couple of days ago told me "It hurt like Hell! Took 4 hours to get done 'cause I had to keep taking breaks. Of course it didn't help that I was PMSing at the time. NEVER get a tattoo when you're PMSing!".
I assured her that I wouldn't...
OTOH, it turned out that she went to the same tattoo studio I'm considering (different artist), and recommended it highly for cleanliness, professionalism and artistic ability.

Re: For Tattoo Fans only!
Zorba, different parts of your body are going to feel different levels of sensation, even in the same area. One of my inks, I was falling asleep and dreaming on one section, while I thought I was going to have a panic attack during another section (same ink), it was so intense.
Damiena, your daughter is brave and must feel fabulous and accomplished (how I always feel after inking ..g.:). I wouldn't go anywhere near my ribs!..l;,

Re: For Tattoo Fans only!
I must not know the trends anymore. My sister just got a large text tat on her side too. Her text wasn't as large but she also got some roses. It seems most of her friends that went to the studio with her also got text. I don't understand the appeal but it seems to be popular for sure.
I think I like your daughter's better than any of the text tats I've seen lately. The shape of the words are figure flattering on her at least in this pic.
