Thread: Pharonics decision: Helmy or Moorish Princess?

Should I get this one:

Audrena.com -> Ahava's Pink Classic Egyptian Princess Belly Dance Costume

Or this one
Audrena.com -> Shayna's Purple Helmy Belly Dance Costume

I like the bell bottoms and the fact that the skirt covers them, but I like the Helmy because it is convertable into a dress.

Which one would look best on me and what color: Royal blue,red, purple, burgandy, emerald green, gold, silver or ? I'm pale and change hair colors every season, lol.

Anyone have these? Pro's/Con's?

Do you have a pic of you in something simple and neutral?

Hmm...despite my personal love of the "Helmy," I've got to say you'd look gorgeous in the "Moorish Princess." You've got the features to really pull it off.

Is your hair dark or light now? If it's dark I like the idea of reds. If it's light I think the darker greens and blues.

I love the pink but I think the Helmy might be a more useful costume because of its convertibility.

Amity, I think the helmy in either red or royal blue. I loved you in that royal blue yasser you used to own. Vibrant colors really pop on you. I love the red on you with the dark hair. I think the royal looks better on you with the lighter hair. In either case, I don't think you can go wrong.

As to hair color, currently dark. I'm thinking back to natural albino blonde or brunette is coming soon though.

Helmy. Gold, purple then red would be my choices for you and the changing hair color. (Me, too.) Gold sparkles and is versatile. I saw a gold Helmy and it was amazing. Selling a liver is an option but they you would have that annoying scar to cover with a tattoo. Plus who knows, you might need the second kidney some day.

I do like the pants but they do not seem to have the swish and flow of the lovely beaded skirt on the Helmy. Of course both would be stunning on you. I am thankful I am not in your position. Tough decision.

We want to see pix when you have new lovely Pharaonics and updates on your decision making.

Oh the pants one for sure. It fits your personality & style so perfectly. The helmy is a classic style, but I dislike the epaulets & mesh tummy--especially for you. If you can easily swap in & out the mesh & shoulders..it would be very versatile--lots of different looks. But I say pants. Then you must come up to portland and raq the scene in it. Colors...I agree with shahla reds & blues look great on you. emerald would be striking as well. I think gold or silver lycra are tricky, especially on curvier gals like us. Burgunday doesn't seem vibrant enough for you. What about teal or fuschia? A deep jewel toned teal or fuschia?

The mesh tummy & shoulder pieces are removable, I like coverage though lol.
The pants the skirt comes down too. I'm thinking a red pantset or a blue dress. I like gold and silver, but everything else I have is just that. I though pink or teal, but it's hard to see them on me as I'm so pale. I miss Maine, I will come and visit after tax season :)

Get both LOL!!! I thi the moorish is lovely! Emerald green is a colour that can be worn with all hair colours too :)

Re: moorish princess - one thing I wasn't aware of when I bought it is that there is no front panel on the skirt. I didn't like that so much of my legs were visible, so I took one of the chiffon flares from the legs and tacked it to the front of the belt. The chiffon flares were about a foot too long for me anyway!

One other thing is that the sparkly spandex fabric the moorish princess was made out of was itchy as all heck for me. No fun to dance in! I sold it to a friend and she seems to like it fine, though. :)

Itchy? Ooo, good to know. I've seen two verions: Like stretchy shiny fabric and dull.

The fabric I had was not shiny by itself but had sparkles on it (which may have been the itchy part)...and those sparkles shed CONSTANTLY.

The Helmy!! It is gorgeous and so versatile! Royal Blue is a great color for you (and me later, he he) You look great in red and green too.

Do a really deep, dark, teal--think a bluish emerald teal color. The great loop teal is what I'm thinking of. You would look crazy in a deep teal. Like a dark peacocky green/blue color.

I like the helmy more, since it can be made into a dress.

I would choose a color you don't already have. I try not to have the same color costume unless they are very different in style. I once had light pink, raspberry and fucia costumes. I downsized to fucia only.

Ok I think I'm going to get a Helmy in either Royal Blue or Teal :)

I LOVE pantsets but if they are itchy and shed, then they're not worth $600+. Thank-you ladies!

I like the Helmy more...but I'm not much for costumes with pants for some reason. As for the color, I can't help you there! Both of them look really pretty though!

First, I went to you site to get an idea of your coloring. Can I just say your hair is so beautiful!!! Natural curls I suppose. Wow!

I like the pants costume because it is so unique. I would say either in a burgundy for dark hair or a royal blue for blonde hair.

PS I found a hip scarf I love on Audrena's site!!!! Her site didn't come up when I googled belly dance wear. It's the closest I've found yet- mix of purples with some coinage for a bit of noise.
