Weight Watchers anyone?
After a ten year absence, I rejoined Weight Watchers and managed to lose weight over Christmas week! ,r:; I lost a lot of weight several years ago and then told myself I could do it on my own--and well, I couldn't---
Are there any other Bhuzzers who are active in Weight Watchers? FYI, There seem to be some Weight Watchers members on their community boards section of the WW website who are either starting to bellydance or are interested in finding out more. If there is enought interest from my sister Bhuzzers, I would be happy to set up a WW private group. Or if you don't want to post publicly, please feel free to PM me.
Happy New Year everyone!

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
congrats to you!!
I did WW in 2005 and actually lost weight after a 7 day cruise! The best part - I never felt like I went "without". I was able to enjoy all the goodies on the cruise!
I would love to be part of a group. I go back and forth with WW - when I need to start "taking control" again. I feel that "need to take control" coming back...

Thanks Ravena Designs and congratulations as well. Let's see if others chime in with interest. Meanwhile, I'm writing down everything I eat... talk about eating your words......

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
I liked WW for a while and lost weight on it, but gradually I started to feel like I was paying somebody money to scold me. I think I wasn't in a very good place emotionally for WW right then.
I'm very curious about the new Momentum plan. I'm thinking of doing the online signup.

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
Wow--it sounds like maybe your leader wasn't the best fit for you
I'm sure that makes a tremendous difference. I've joined the on-line/unlimited meetings way--and I have finally reconciled myself to the fact that I need a little outside accountability to really push myself. Also, I did enjoy the meetings years ago, and have found them helpful so far this time around.
As best I can figure, the momentum plan combines the points and the core foods into one method. Basically you are encouraged to eat "filling" foods, re core foods but use your points limit to track everything. This is a good fit for me, as I was already eating healthy foods, but just way too much of them. for example, an entire avocado and a box of whole wheat crackers. ..c:: Yeah, not so much for healthy portions on my own....

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
I have two students who have been doing Weight Watchers and am considering joining, as I have a lot of fat to lose. (I'm not saying weight, because muscle weighs more than fat and I don't want to lose any muscle...) What's the difference between on-line and in-person?

I've been thinking about going back on, since I've had success with it in the past (when I followed it). Does anyone know what the deal is with the new Momentum plan?

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
I lost 60 lbs. on WW back in 2000, and have been a member ever since. The past two years have been tough though with a lot of emotional upheavals, and I've since regained about 15 lbs. I'm sticking with it though. I like the website, but the best thing for me is the in-person meeting community. Sometimes the discussions can be very superficial (what food to eat, etc), but sometimes some very deep stuff gets discussed and it will ring a bell as to why one should never give up, even if you do occasionally, give in....
I had lost 2.4 lbs. just before Christmas, but weigh-in is tomorrow, and I did indulge in a few treats (hopefully the treadmill work-outs counteracted some of the indulgences!).

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
I just rejoined! Lost about 35 lbs a few years ago and have gained back about 15, time to get the whip out again! I do it online & that seems to provide me with enough accountability to stick with it. Yikes but I'd gotten in the habit of eating a lot....

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
Choosing meetings versus online really depends on your own learning style and what motivates you. A dear friend met her goal weight through on-line only, while I really need the more formal structure of the group meeting and weekly weigh in to keep me focused. The same holds true for me in belly dance--the energy of a class keeps me more focused than when I'm practicing at home--especially when I'm learning something new That being said, the Weight Watchers website is an incredible source of information for me--especially the recipes. The community boards seem pretty active, but I haven't really used them--just a few lurks here and there.

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
Maisraqs, I completely agree about losing fat versus muscle. I am simply tired of being fat but fit, and realize that I could go much further as a dancer if my body wasn't so literally weighed down with excess fat. Of course, there are many other health benefits as well, and I don't want to continue to be at risk for Type II diabetes or other chronic conditions because of my weight.
With online only, one can track weight loss, activities, and points (equation for assigning quantified values to food based on calories, fat and fiber content per serving. Weekly meetings are chances to celebrate successes, ask questions and spend 30 minutes or so with other people who are trying to make healthy lifestyle changes. I do online and meetings.

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
I started WW somewhere in the summer, and lost quite some weight, it was going great and I loved going to the meetings! But then I went on a 2-week All Inclusive holiday and I didn't feel like dieting when I could eat & drink all I wanted... And then I came back from vacation and didn't restart, unfortunately :s I have been wanting to restart ever since, but am lacking in discipline I guess (and putting on too much weight)... Perhaps I'll make it my New Years resolution, one of many...

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
oh - I had not heard of the momentum plan. Though - they switch up their plans like every 2 years. I got my lifetime membership back in 2005.
My issue was not the food that I ate but portions. I eat too big of portions. I am slowly getting control of that again.

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
I'm on weightwatchers online now. I've lost 17 lbs since I started in June ,r:;. I've stagnated the last month but really that's ok considering the season and I that haven't been overly careful. I'm doing points but I noticed that lately instead of using up daily activity points before dipping into the bonus points, the point tracker subtracts the excess points from the bonus points but allows you to carry over the activity points from one day to the next. Maybe this function of the momentum plan???
I really love weightwatchers and recommend it but it is hard to follow on vacation or when traveling for work.

Reina:
Congratulations on your weight loss ,r:; that's very inspiring for me as I'm just getting started. The new Momentum plan lets you carry over activity points for about a week instead of having to use them that day--that may explain the difference in your online tracking.

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
I had joined weightwatchers in 2006 and had success in losing some fat. I reallt need to clean up my eating - I have fallen so far off the wagon. I have the WW program on my PDA, so I think I'll dust it off and start keeping track again. I would love to join a Bhuz WW group!

Re: Weight Watchers anyone?
I gained weight on WW, 15 pounds to be exact and I gained with Jenny as well. I went with friends who had a ton of success tho, so it is probably just my body with the issues.
ETA: My problem is a low metabo from undereating and they do not address this problem so I felt like it just was not a fit and I was tired of gaining each week.

I rejoined a few months ago too. Lost 9 pounds before the holiday hit, but as soon as I'm home, I'm back to counting points hardcore! I guess that'll be pretty soon since I'm typing this from the Phoenix airport!

Another weigh-in today and more weight loss ..l;,..l;,..l;, I'll set up a Weight Watchers group this weekend, and post again on this thread when it's up and running. Thank you everyone for sharing your WW experiences--it's really inspiring and helpful. I hope to see you as members in the new group. Look for more info either tomorrow or Sunday.
