    Smooth Away

I just saw a commercial for this~ has anyone tried it? It appears to be a fine sandpaper that sloughs off the hair from any body part- "even works for men!" ..l;, I'm not really the gimmick-girl but I get a rash from shaving and even from depilatories sometimes and this looks like an interesting alternative.

I haven't used that exact product, but I have used something similar. It does act somewhat like a very fine-grade sandpaper. I would use it on legs. It worked pretty good, but I had to be really careful or I'd get burns on my skin from rubbing too much. It also still left me with a bit of stubble, so I just went back to shaving. It was pretty time-consuming too.

    Re: Smooth Away

I had a lady demo this on me at a trade show recently - worked like a charm!

The big question tho, could I make it do what she did?
    Hard to say.

I tried a similar product and it burned my face. Might try again on eyebrows and legs but not upper lip....no place where the skin is delicate.

    Re: Smooth Away

I had someone do a demo on my inner calf. Never again. This might be due to an inexperienced person but I ended up with something that looked like Road Rash - what happens to a biker when the 'lay down' a motorcycle. My calf looked like it had been sanded with a belt sander. Of course this was days prior to a trip to Cozumel so I could not hide it. (Everyone was trying to guess how I ended up with Road Rash on the inside of my calf. We had bets - the winner would get an extra special spa treatment. I did not fear I would have to pay over $500 since no one had a clue.) The concept sounds nice but I am now quite cautious.

I have been so curious about these, but not willing to pay the $20 price tag to try them.

girl don't do it, it funny how they stay this is a "new" way to remove hair and you should trow out your "old fashion" ways of removing hair. I think it has to be at least 10 years ago when heard about the "new" way to remove hair. for me it is just fine sand paper, it it never worked, I was just sanding my face! Imagine if you sanded your face, it took skin off. Maybe they have improved this recently but I'd be care full if you have sensitive skin.
plus it might only work on Caucasus's fine hair, cause it never took off my hair

I've recently researched this product, and it had a lot of bad reviews...plus, if you apparently buy from the people(and not a store that carries it) the shipping is supposed to be outrageous or something like that...and they keep on charging you for future orders.

I tried a similar product on my legs, and it was pretty hopeless. My legs were far from "smooth"; they were still hairy, plus red and a little irritated. You say you have sensitive skin? For something that in my experience yields patchy results at best, I doubt it's worth a try.

I wouldn't mind betting this is an updated version of what they used to call a Buf-Puf. My auntie used one on her lip and apparently has had to use it daily forever since.

When you think about it, this is no different than shaving. It breaks off the hair at skin level.

Thank you, everyone, for your help! I'll probably stay away... like I said, I'm not really one for gimmicks, though I did recently purchase the PedEgg on the advice of 4 different people. The idea of it is still a little gross to me (feet=ick) but it is a neat product!

I just shaved one too many times with a too-dull razor... and now I have those red bumps around each follicle! Is that similar to the "road rash" you ladies are talking about?

    Re: Smooth Away

I remember my Mom getting something like this in the 80's and it gave her a horrible rash when she used it. It was not called a Buf-Puf, though. I had one of those and it was for exfoliation, not hair removal.

I remember using this as a teenager, probably with Noxzema. ..l;, I bought one a few years ago out of sentimentality; it was too harsh though.

It sounds like what I get, but mine happens when the hair is growing back, not immediately after shaving. My legs get so itchy when the hair is growing in (stubble) that I scratch them almost raw- I've tried the anti-itch ointments, the medicated lotions, etc., to no avail. Thankfully my costumes skirts cover the back of my calves and my thighs, where it's the worst.
