Fell this morning, hurt knee & performing on Friday

It rained sometime during the middle of the night and everything got iced over because of it. So when I left the house this morning to go to work, I slipped and fell on my knee. It is red and only slightly swollen. It hurts but not real bad, more like a dull pain. I am performing on Friday, what tips do other bhuzzers have to make sure my knee will be okay to dance on for Friday?

Whenever I have any kind of inflammation I always take some Zyflamend. I swear by it! It really helps. I get it at the local health food store. The liquid doesn't taste good but you can get capsules instead.
You also might want to put some heat on it. Sit back & have a warm cup of tea & relax.

Elevate, ice and ibuprofin. Stay off of it if you can and elevate your knee. Ice it to reduce swelling and take Ibuprofin to help with the discomfort and swelling. You'll probably have a nasty bruise, but be ok to dance on Friday.

Girl, I've just been through this with both knees and then with my foot.

Doctors usually prescribe the RICE method:

    Rest
    Ice
Compression (ACE bandage, soft knee brace)
    Elevation

Keep it higher than your heart as much as possible and take an anti-inflammatory (like ibuprofen) on a regular schedule to keep swelling down.

Ice it often for the first 24 hours. After that give it ice a couple of times each day for 15 minutes.

Walgreens or another drugstore will have soft elastic knee braces (I like the ones ACE makes) that will offer some support. I prefer those to elastic bandages, they're not terribly expensive and mine has sure gotten plenty of use over the years.

To elevate the knee higher than your heart, lie down and put some thick pillows under the knee (to support it lightly bent) OR under the knee, calf and foot (so the whole lower leg is raised), whichever feels better. Later you can sit up and support the knee in this way to rest it.

Stay off it!!! Rehearse in your head.

In addition to these suggestions, get as much rest as you can tonight and during the rest of the week. Sleep helps you heal faster.

Maybe try some Chinese tiger balm ointment and rub it in and that might help. I believe in magnets and have wore magnets on my hips that were causing me great pain and they help. Magnets somehow help you heal faster. Several years ago, my husband got caught in an exercise machine and tore up his hand, and I had laid a big magnet something on his hand, people thought I was crazy. The next day - his hand was barely swollen and it was really unbelievable that it wasn't swollen twice the size. Some guy had to rescue him and release the machine off him.

Thanks for these tips! Since I am at work still, I can't lie down, so I am making do by having my leg elevated on my computer tower since it sits underneath my desk. I have also taken some ibuprofin. There is some sort of ice pack in our first aid kit, but I think I will wait til I get home to use mine (the one at work looks like it won't work very well).

The magnets seem like a good idea as well, think I might try that when I get home.

I am so relieved that I didn't get hurt worse, the last time I fell on ice I hurt my back so bad that I couldn't move for 2 days. Though I looked at my boot, and that didn't fare well, the heel broke. Luckily I keep sneakers at work when I need to go out back to the factory so I switched my shoes.

I am determined to perform on Friday so I will try everything that is stated here.

One caution about magnets - they can erase stuff you have stored on computer hard disks, which are a magnetic medium. Don't let magnets anywhere near your computer, USB drives, flash drives, or other storage media!

D'oh! I didn't even think about that. Thanks for reminding me!
