Body stocking suggestions
Does anyone have suggestions for me? I've decided that I'd prefer to wear a body stocking when on the rare occasions I opt for two-piece costuming, but I'm a little confused/clueless about all the choices out there.
I recently bought a Sugar Petals stocking made of power mesh. That felt like a Scarlett O'Hara corset to me, so I sold it.
I really just want something to camouflage skin imperfections and hold me in a little, not make me 2 sizes smaller. And I want something I don't have to pin into my bra/top--that just seems way too fussy.
Tell me your stocking success stories!

Re: Body stocking suggestions
For a tummy cover, I used the top of size W-3 black pantyhose and just cut out the crotch. It only cost about $3. I sewed snaps on the top band & on my bra. It worked very well.

Re: Body stocking suggestions
I have the sugar petals stretch net (not power mesh) and it's pretty comfy and does a good job of basically what you're talking about ... smoothing everything out a bit and making the skin tone nice and even ... but doesn't take inches off or anything. I got the style that is like a sleeveless leotard w/ the front that scoops down beneath your bra ... it wouldn't work if you were wearing a bra only for a top, but with any type of vest or anything over, it works perfectly.

My favorite I've tried is the "cristal lycra," which you can get from See-Fit. Good balance of durability and sheerness, plus it has a lovely shimmer.

I really like the ones that Designs by Janie makes. They don't have the strangle effect of the sugar petals stockings and they also have snaps at the crotch which make it easy to "ahem, use the ladies room". Here's a link:

I'll check out See-fit--they seem to have a good rep here. Unfortunately, they're on vaca till the end of the month. Is the shipping reasonable?

Try their ebay store:
eBay Seller: eralla2: Fashion items on eBay Australia
Shipping isn't bad, but kind of slow considering they're in Australia. I have one of the mesh/net ones and I like it.

Re: Body stocking suggestions
I have a See=Fit bodystocking that I like. I bought it to match my skintone and a few people in my dance class did not realize that I was wearing it. They just thought that I was baring more than I usually do ..g.:
I did however buy some clear straps and subsituted them for the brown ones that came with the stocking.
Good luck!

Based on what you said you wanted, I was going to recommend the see-fit. I love mine, it's not tight but comfy. I wear a vest to cover up the straps and it's easy to use.

Re: Body stocking suggestions
Lauren, and others with See-fits--did you order your regular size or the next size down? The ebay store suggests that "Best results are achieved if they are a tight fit." So if I'm a US size 12-14, should I get that size or the next smaller? I want to be able to breathe, but I don't want it to look saggy.

Etoile, tell me more about the clear straps. I bought some from Joanne's Fabrics but they weren't long enough to go from under the bust to over the shoulders. I've seen other dancers with clear straps and it seems like a good solution, I just haven't found any long enough.

Re: Body stocking suggestions
If you use pantyhose, what do you do with the seams? Is there pantyhose out there without seams? That sounds like that could work. Body stocking are very expensive. I have a tan/nude one, I bought it from someone here so it wasn't that much ($22 I think) and and it fits well. I think it's a See-fit brand, not sure. It works great. But I want to expreiment with colored ones, to transform 2 piece costumes into dresses. And colors are hard to come by.
Any suggestions?

Re: Body stocking suggestions
I bought my straps from my local Walmart which has a small sewing section. The straps are adjustable and also have a bit of a stretch to them. Once I had it on with my dance bra, I just tucked the straps as much as possible under my bra. I already threw out the packaging and I can't remember the brand that I had bought.

Re: Body stocking suggestions
I 2nd the dance fishnets! cut off the legs and just sew it to your bra. They have two styles in seemless. One is a pro weight, heavier and more elastic (more durable) and a lighter version. Really easy to wear and MUCH cooler than power mesh or stretch mesh!

Re: Body stocking suggestions
I also love the see fit body stockings. The shipping is really good... I think it was about $5 us for express airmail from Australia and it got to my house in a week!
The stockings cover blemishes and don't make you feel like you're in a sausage casing and they have clear (removable) straps and built in undies so you don't have to hook it to your bra/belt/skirt.
