    Crunchless Abs?

    Here's the website:
    Crunchless Abs :: Official Website

Has anyone tried this? I'm sick of spending money on things that don't work or turn out to be just a fad. This sparked an interest and I was hoping to get an opinion on it. So, bring it on. The good, the bad and the honest opinions.

    Re: Crunchless Abs?

I haven't purchased them, and as a general rule I try to stay away from gimmicks like that. I remember seeing a friend of a friend who was {gasp!} a stripper and she had six pack abs. I asked her how she got them and she said "by dancing", Duh, I said, "what dance moves did you use?" She said she performed a lot of undulations and hip circle movements which worked her upper abs and obliques. So my opinion is... spend the 40.00 on a strip class...l;,

I was going to buy this, actually! For ten bucks, I figured why not. And I don't think it's a "gimmick" - they aren't selling anything new, or any "product". It's just a workout program targeted to abs, but without standard "crunches". I think?

Boy, you could pretty much put together an ab workout routine from the promo alone!

I do bicycle crunches and my abs aren't bad for a middle-aged gal (not as good-looking as anala's--you should ask her her secret--and she's had kids!)

I think there's lots of info in books, library/Netflix dvd rentals, online, to achieve tighter, stronger abs; I wouldn't probably spend money on something like this myself. You might be better off just hiring a professional fitness trainer for an hour to give you a personalized ab workout.

Eat less food, have spot lipo and belly dance, I would say.

I have good abs. They have a ton of fat on top of them.

I actually did order this but have not received it yet. It looks like it focuses on more than just the abs-the whole lumbo pelvic hip comples area. Which is great because it strengthens areas like the lower back and hip flexors. If you're looking to lose body fat in the belly area then make sure you have enough cardio. Regular ab work (crunches, etc) just strengthens them, when you add cardio then you lose the body fat. I can let you know how it works when I finally get it

I haven't sen this, but it looks similar to another vid I have from prevention magazine, Same basic premise - if you do this series of exercises for 10 - 15 mins a day 3 x a week you will have stronger abs and core. There are only two draw backs I have seen: you can easily surpass the level which they are teaching AND you can get bored very quickly.

I don't know about this particular vid, but I know that the Prevention's Mag one did have suggestions on how to push your work out to the next level.

It also had crunches and reverse crunches.

But remember that when you have more muscle, you also raise your metabolism which then helps to burn calories more efficiently. . .

just playing devils advocate. . .

    Re: Crunchless Abs?

I wouldn't say this is a gimmick, it's just being marketed as one!
These are good core strengthening exercises, I saw nothing in there that I haven't done before.
Taj is right, you could easily put together your own workout from watching the trailer, providing you know how to use good technique. The people doing the exercises all have perfect form, which is good, except for the crunching lady, who they obviously wanted to look terrible. There is nothing inherently wrong with crunches, providing they are done with good technique, and in combination with other exercises. In fact, correctly done crunches will also work the transverse abdominus, as well as rectus ab, and both sets of obliques if you twist at all. Pretty much all the abdominal muscles are used to some degree.

The premise seems sound, but it's not a quick fix, you will have to work hard!
A lot of these moves are much harder than crunches anyway.

Hmm, I just read some reviews on Amazon, looks like there are a lot of people not happy with the customer service they received.
It appears as though they send out and charge you for extra dvds after your initial order, so be careful!

I watched the infomercial and it seemed to me like a combination of pilates and some other stuff. If you want an ab video (it's just a video, yes?), then it might be a good one. I could also recommend almost any pilates video - even doing just "The 10 minute solution pilates for abs" video, for ten minutes a day, every day - I saw a marked difference in my waist definition.

Actually the ab video I REALLY recommend - Jackie Warner's WorkOut video - has a 20 minute ab segment that is so killer!

I love abs (though I've never had a sixpack), and I'm bummed that I have to stop doing them after the end of this first trimester.

    Re: Crunchless Abs?

I ordered this and got the shipment in a timely manner. However, I found the exercises to be so easy that I gave the DVD away to someone who doesn't exercise a lot. Sure enough, though, a month later I received a box with 3 new DVDs, a stretch band and a couple of other small pieces of un-needed, equipment, none of which I ordered or even knew was coming. The second box came with a receipt with a number to call if I wanted to discontinue service, which I will be doing in the next couple of days when I get the chance to go to the post office to return this!

    Re: Crunchless Abs?

I'm not expecting a six pack nor am I expecting a miracle workout that will drop pounds in days. I know I have to work hard at it. I was looking for something that would actually strengthen and define my mid section, front and back. I can't do crunches, they hurt me. I've never tried Pilate's before so I didn't know it was so similar.
    Thanks.

It might be worth notifying your bank that you do not authorise any further payments from them to be taken out of your account. (unless you want them to continue sending you stuff, that is!)

    Re: Crunchless Abs?

These seem to be pretty standard core strength exercises, which is a good thing. The tricky thing is that many will be just as uncomfortable and straining as crunches (especially as most people do crunches incorrectly, causing strain in all the wrong places) unless done properly.

Could it be a good video? I don't see why not, especially if you like guided exercise routines. But I think that if you are looking to really maximize your ab worout, get a consultation and a couple of training sessions with a certified personal trainer and work on your ab exercise technique.

Can't say anything positive or negative about the link, but for alternatives to crunches I LOVE Shiva Rhea's core workout. She can be a little new agey, which doesn't bother me but might bother some people. But the workout is VERY challenging and has a great variety of moves.

    Re: Crunchless Abs?

    Hey Mahira,
Before my wedding several years ago, Glamour magazine ran some kind of ultimate ab sculpting article. I used it religously for about a month, and it really worked.

The key was to do every move sloooooowly, and I think they recommended going through the routine twice, with 20 reps each set (I only ever had time for one set)
    1. Plank: work up to a minute
    2. crunches (sorry!) hold a 5-10 lb. dumbell at your chest, hold your legs in "butterfly" (palms of feet touch, knees out)
    3. double crunches: knees up to tabletop, hands behind head, crunch both upper and lower abs
    4. bicycles
    5. oblique crunches
    6. side planks--2 sets of 20 secs on each side

There was nothing unusual or trendy, but I can vouch it worked!
