Costumes made by Machine???
Does anyone think it's possible for a machine to make a bellydance costume (the sequins and beads part)? If so, how would that work? I've seen simple flat designs put into placemats and such, but I don't know how it would be possible to string a few beads from one sequin to the other, etc. I'm thinking especially about beaded fringe...I have no idea how that would work.

Re: Costumes made by Machine???
There are lots of machines that sew sequins, but I don't know how to obtain one.
Youtube has a machines advertised.
There used to be one called a jewelbox? For the home, but I'm not sure, if I that's the correct name.
Some of these machines have been discontinued (Omni is real hard to find).

The Omni stitch machine will also sew strung (sometimes called 'slung') sequins.

I think with the beaded fringe, the filament is inserted, at the same time the beads are cut into pieces; from one long thin glass tube.
I think those machine are factory only.Last edited by gothique; 01-09-2009 at 04:22 PM.

Re: Costumes made by Machine???
There are industrial machines which do this. They are very difficult for the GP to get a hold of, have a steep learning curve and very expensive.

Re: Costumes made by Machine???
I had a friend that made costumes using her machine. She sewed sequins onto straps and that kind of thing with the machine. She had an old school industrial sewing machine that I'm pretty sure would go through concrete. I still have a costume she made and it's held up really well.
