Guess it could be Northern... I live in Southern NM so we never have any problem with sunshine!

Re: If you MUST fake bake...
darn, my company blocks that site because it's about "fashion", which apparently is not appropriate for work!
I do fake-bake. Even if I go somewhere with sun, I don't want to damage my skin by exposing it to the sun - fake-bake is my friend. I went to one of those skin-analysis booths once and basically everything about my skin was great except for a ton of sun damage, probably gotten as a kid when I used to tan really dark.

I like the maybelline shimmer fake bake. Doesn't streak. But smells annoying.

Re: If you MUST fake bake...
Ok, so this is a peeve of mine. I have NEVER fake-baked, and have avoided the sun religiously. As a result, I have VERY PALE, healthy skin that looks younger than its years. But ALL THE TIME, especially in summer, people have told me, "you're so pale; you're so fair." "Why don't you get a tan?" my troupe leader says. But I'm so sick of the "Blonde, tan, beach-bunny look!" argh! Must I be brown? I'm relatively thin and fit. Why do I have to be tan?
One guy once told me, "You know, I like your skin. A hundred years ago, you would have been beautiful. People used to want to have skin like you." Awesome. So hundreds of year ago tha look I have now would have been popular. Hmm. ;-(

Incidentally, when I was a ballet dancer, we weren't allowed to get tans as it changed the color of our skin under the stage lights to a strange purple color! ;-) But I know bellydance is different.

Oh please, a hundred years ago he may have been mistaken for a giant! So what?? A friend of mine (dancer) is alabaster fair. And have you seen some of the beautiful creamy Bhuzers around here? WOW! I have permanently brown arms and a back from gardening without protection here in NM (who knew I was gonna take up belly dance in my dottage?) so thats my solution.

Maybe it's just better to have naturally beautiful skin, like you, Azhia!

That's funny, Anala! This dude actually does look like a giant! A ginat, gangly, Icibod Crane. You've seen the Disney "Sleepy Hollow"? That's this dude!

Aw, thanks Elianae! I have waited for this skin! I was super acneic until my mid...oh, let's just say until a few years ago I had acne all over the place. Backne, Chestne, all over the face...
I say, don't listen to them. BAH! They're jealous that you have healthy beautiful skin.
And Anala is right, there are some fair beauties here on Bhuz. Did you see Latriamou's Betty Boop shots?! That would not have been possible without near white complexion!

Re: If you MUST fake bake...
Since we're on the subject. I don't tan and I avoid the sun. I burn so easily. I'm fair with freckles. I tried a spray tan at a solon once and it was horrible. I took numerous showers to get it off as much as possible before a photo shoot. It was blotchy and too dark. I am told that was a bad job and I should try again. I am hesitant but willing. Would you recommend I try a different salon spray tan? I've tried self tanners and they turn me orange.

Re: If you MUST fake bake...
I'm not opposed to fake baking if it's what you want to do and I have done it in the past myself - and the tips in the link are really good ones ... but one thing that has begun to bother me a LOT ... why do people feel that it's totally ok and socially acceptable to make comments like those in the quote above to people with naturally fair skin ... I mean people think nothing of telling a fair skinned girl she is pasty white and needs to get a tan immediately because she's blinding people and other various rude comments ... even when it's put more diplomatically or "well meaningly", it's still basically saying "your skin color that you were born with is not ok / is inferior to other skin colors and you need to do something to change it" ... would THAT be ok in ANY other context in this day and age??? No.Last edited by portiaangel; 01-17-2009 at 01:27 PM.

Re: If you MUST fake bake...
Sounds like it was the wrong color. If you feel like you want to add a "sun-kissed" look, I would research places by seeing before and after shots, if possible. Or perhaps they can offer a test patch before you undergo the whole body spray.
Beauty mags will start reviewing self-tanners any day now so keep your eyes out for those. I went by recommendation of Alba Botanica self-tanner and I really liked the results. Everyone's skin tone and skin type will affect the ultimate result so you'll have to attempt some trial and discovery before finding something you're happy with. Again, this is IF you feel the need to add a deeper hue to your complexion.
