    Indoor photo location ideas?

Any places you all have had unique indoor photographs made? My hubby's hobby is photography, and he'd like to learn the art of portraiture. Mostly right now, all the pics he has of me are action shots in the restaurant or on stage. I'd love to have him take some still shots in some cool places.

Help me think outside the box by sharing your unique places? Has to be indoor this time of year...unless I carry some sort of heated blanket ..l;,

Here in the Triangle there are warehouses who rent out by the hour. We have one, Dynamic Sound, that even comes with equipment...

I also had a friend who had hers done at a restaurant...off hours of course...MySpace.com - Seher My Photos

PS Try Craig's list and search for "studio" or something similar.

Are you near a zoo with indoor exhibits or botanical gardens? Planetarium? Museums often have policy with regard to pics, but the entrances-lobbies are grand and ornate - even some office buildings...but at an off time to limit gawking :Aembarassed:

Another approach is to take cool pictures with a plain background, I think a low grade gray is best - and practice super-imposing them over cool backgrounds you locate online, in books, magazines, postcards, etc. That will also enable you to maximize your time when actually on-site with the great backgrounds.

Anala posted something about using a background and adding her picture to it. I believe that one is the one viewed with her posts.

To avoid any potential copyright issues from taking stuff off online, you can get some great backgrounds in low cost stock photo places. One site I use alot has great backgrounds(photographic and illustrated) is istockphoto.com. A low res photo for web use is as cheap as a $1.

Does your community have a museum with interesting sculptures?

Would this be a good time indulge his hobby and buy a photographer's background? Ie, a large sheet of colored canvas that can be used for backgrounds?

Some towns have a "cave" that photographers can rent by the hour which is a solid-background wall/floor built for optimal photographic lighting.

Is there a local green house with plants displayed in a way that would be attractive for photographic background? Or an indoor botanical garden?

you can buy background paper pretty inexpensively. Photographers also use "digital backgrounds" You can buy a disk and there is a bunch of stuff on there. then you shoot the pics against a green background and replace it w/ whatever background you choose.

I agree with Shira regarding museums or buildings with cool architecture?
