Spinoff: Storing silk veils????
I've tried keeping them folded in a big plastic box (but the one I want is always on the bottom, and I'm always in too big a hurry to put them back properly
)
Now I have them folded and draped over folded dishtowels on hangers, but they still get all wrinkly, or they fall off, or I don't have enough hangers for all of them and I wind up stacking them....and knocking them all on the floor when I want the bottom one.
I've thought about clipping them onto skirt hangers, but would the clips damage them?
I need something simple, for lazy people, that minimizes wrinking!

Try big ziplock bags with the zippers (like the freezer bags) and when you zipped it up leave some air in the bag for padding and then line the bags up in your plastic box. This leaves very little wrinkles. and you will be able to see all the veils and no mess.

Zip top bags are the best solution for me. I use the largest bags possible for fluffy skirts.

Ooh... i like the ziplock bag idea.
As an alternative, I use trouser hangers for storing mine. They're lined with felt, so there's no risk of damaging the silk the way there could be with skirt hangers. I store two to a hanger.
ETA: Mine are from Ikea. I don't know whether the Bed, Bath, and Beyond ones are felt-lined or not; I just wanted a visual reference.Last edited by Ainsley; 01-16-2009 at 06:20 PM.

I have a hanger that came from my dry cleaner when I get my comforters back from them that has a large round cardboard tube around it. I can gently fold a couple of veils and hang two of them on each hanger. As long as you don't fold too tightly, they slip right off the hanger without any serious wrinkles.

Re: Spinoff: Storing silk veils????
I just went to count my veils that I keep in circulation - I've got 15 silk and 6 non-silk. I have three trouser hangers like these, except mine have four tiers:
Howards Storage World
I fold them in half lengthwise, then I fold them several times widthwise until they're about 6-7" wide and hang them on the hanger.
they work well. because the veils are lightly folded, some of them do keep a slight crease, but that doesn't bother me.
I've been wanting to try something like this: Wood Scarf Hanger so I can see all of the veils on the hanger at one time without having to paw around them to see what's hanging underneath. I think you'd want one with pretty big holes. a vendor I know (hasani) used to display all of her veils on scarf hangers like these. they might get a little bunchy in the middle, but there would be no fold creases anywhere else..

Whoah, you guys have given me a great idea!

Trouser Rack and Laundry products. Collections Etc.: Almost everything $19.99 or less!
Think it'd work?
I love the ziploc idea, too, but I'm afraid I'd be too lazy to maintain the system.
