It's definitely not plastic wrap. I think it's something like quilter's template plastic.

The seamstress used a heavy plastic to start designing the template for the shape of the bra. Rather cleaver, actually.

Oh! I understand what that is now. Clever way of making a pattern.

Yes, it's a very convenient way of transferring patterns. I used IKEA shower curtain (it's like $1.5) for my ghawazee coat pattern. Pics can be found here Sophie’s Dancelog » Making a Ghawazee Coat

I never would have thought to use an Ikea shower curtain for patternmaking! That's genius! Is there any way to get the fold marks out of it, though? With paper patterns, you can iron the wrinkles out, but I wouldn't want to iron a shower curtain. ..l;,

You could try the lowest setting and through a piece of cotton, but I believe it will still crinkle. My solution was just to pin it well. What's really nice about it is that it's easier to pin and easier to store later on. If you are making the pattern on a hard table and can't pin you could tape it, and remove the tape later.
I would also try looking in hardware stores, they might carry rolls of plastic sold by yard.

The patterns could be rolled, rather than folded.
