embellish ballet shoes or leave them plain?

I've got a one-time-only dance in a restaurant thing coming up next month. I really don't want to shell out a bunch of money on shoes to wear this one time. The dress I'm wearing is royal blue velour, beaded and sequined, so it's on the sparkly side, not the folky side.

Wearing my class dance shoes is not an option -- I wear jazz boots, which would look pretty goofy. That leaves me with my Bloch Elastosplit canvas ballet slippers. They are relatively unnoticeable, as far as dance shoes go.

So my question is: should I stick with unnoticeable? Or should I try to dye or bling up my shoes to better match the dress? Cotton canvas is quite dyeable... I've got hot fix rhinestones galore... but maybe it would be better to leave it alone and go "nude" on the feet.

Love to know what you think! Thanks!

If the dress is long enough to cover your feet most of the time I'd go nude, definitely.

I have a bit of an aversion to decorated ballet shoes, mind. You don't want people looking at your feet, so don't draw their attention to them.

i always wear plain "nude" ballet slippers. why bother changing your shoes for one performance? you want them to go with everything, right?

Nude is always good... if for no other reason than the disasters that can happen when you dye them. I had to once for a lyrical performance... I had blue feet for a month.

when I'm watching performances, I always find colored or blinged up shoes distracting - I much prefer seeing nude shoes on a dancer (though that is just my personal preference and I may be unusual in finding other shoes so distracting)

I think either would be fine. Since you have described this as a one-time thing, I'd probably steer you to doing the low-effort approach, which is leaving the shoes unchanged.
