Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
I just rented "Shape Up and Hip Out" with Jillina from Netfllix to preview it thinking it would be a good workout to do a few days a week.
Has anyone else tried this? What do you think?

I haven't tried it yet, but it's in my netflix queue to try / do for a while - I'd love to hear what you / anyone else thinks of it (I have worked my way through the other 3 more choreography / less fitness oriented ones that came out at the same time and loved those - just returned the hipalicious drum solo one today)

I think it's good. I use it fairly regularly. It's not particularly challenging, but a nice dance-y workout where you move constantly. It contains some nice simple combinations and transitions that I often find myself using now when I free dance.

I like it! I like the performances at the end the best though!

I like it too. It's not very challenging, but it's probably as close to an aerobic workout as you are going to get. It does keep you moving continuously. I suppose you could try to find ways to up the intensity if you really want to sweat.

I think it is great for when you want to do a workout using bellydance movement without having to really think about it too much. Meaning that she uses common movements in nice combinations. (1st section is very basic. I use 2nd and 3rd)

I like the 2nd and 3rd sections. On the second section I've added hand weights, and with the 3rd section I like to drill cymbals as well. If I keep my arms up in 5th, it gets my heart rate up a bit more.

Wow you go girl!!
I found myself playing section 2 and 3 twice through, so I could get in the cardio for at least 40 minutes. I am just not sure if I won't get tired of it. I agree with the above posts, there is only so far you can go with trying to get an aerobic workout in bellydance without getting too complicated.

Re: Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
That's a great idea to add zills! The video is slow enough to not feel like you have to be watching the screen or following Jillina at all times. I like this one for when I feel extremely lazy...and that hasn't happened in a while because I've got choreographies to practice. It doesn't top my list, though. And the music really irks me for some reason. I think it's because my instructor uses it in class and I want to hear something different.

Re: Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
that's why I use netflix for my workout dvds - I use one for several weeks, then turn it back in for another one - that way I never get tired of them and am always changing things up (for my regular aerobic bellydance workout in addition to my dvds, I just keep all of the songs for the mid to up tempo choreographies I've learned in an ipod cue together and do them back to back, no stopping, usually twice through ... so that's 50 minutes to an hour ... works nicely for me)... glad to hear some good things about the jillina one ... and always glad to hear there's gonna be performance footage as well!

Re: Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
I really like it...the 2nd and the 3rd are probably the most fun...while the 3rd would probably be the best "workout"...the 1st workout would be best if you really don't feel like doing anything at first...then you end up doing the 2nd...and maybe the 3rd as well.

Re: Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
no - I find the music from any choreographies I learn on dvds whenever I can (usually it will have the song/artist info somewhere on it - jillina sells a cd on her website that has the songs from all her dvds from the latest set) ... but most are choreographies from my class - my teacher is very choreography based. ... you can copy the music from dvds but I don't think it's legal if it's copyrighted material.

Re: Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
I love it! I think the lighting and set are incredible. I've taken a few of Jillina's workshops and her personality was a little more droll in the DVD(feel the burn LOL), however she does cue well. I couldnt help wondering if she was really nervous during filming or something because she is usually much more fun! I agree with the statements that its not much of a challenge, but great for getting you moving. I do the first workout on long 12 hour days of work just so I can sqeeze some dance it. I find the music relaxing, I'll have to head over the her website to snag the CD. A cool extra bonus is the 6 performances on the DVD-despite the bad camera work they are pretty good. I love Ahava's performance!

Re: Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
I think this is a lovely, though not super-challenging DVD. I agree, I love all the bonus footage at the end. If you get tired of the routines, you can do what some of the ladies do here, like add 3/4 shimmy to some traveling steps, or hand weights to the arm movements, or even zills! Overall, I think it's a good production, and I like the ending meditation/cool down. it ends on a positive note about being grateful for our bodies and ability to dance. Well said!

Thanks for this thread, ladies! I bought this video months ago, and have been too lazy to pop it in...now I'm feeling inspired to check it out.

Re: Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
As with everyone, I like the 2nd and 3rd section the best. The first section is too beginnerish to me as she breaks down moves very slowly. I would have preferred a mini tutorial section and more slow, but flowy movements in this part. The last time I did part I, I shimmied and added the step-by-step hip circle ect. I liked it a lot better that way. The zills idea is wonderful!

Re: Has anyone tried Jillina's workout dvd?
You know, I just did this vid over the weekend, and while I like it, I do wish to register a complaint:
Just how big does she think my living room is?
I do not have room to do 16 counts of grapvine to either side, nor do I have room to move forward 8 steps... and then another 8 steps.
I like the workout, but it makes me crazy that you practically need a dance studio to do it in. :-D
