What are your favorite bellydance workout dvds?

It's 26 degrees outside and I'm having a hard time getting motivated to run in that freezer! Would rather workout indoors when it's this cold.

I'm shopping for a bellydance related dvd that is intended to be a workout to make you sweat. Tried Jillina's shape up and hip out and it's pretty good.

What are some you've tried and still use today?

I'm liking World Dance New York's Luscious and Rhythm Workout. Luscious, taught by Neon, Blanca and Jenna, runs about 45 minutes for the workout part, which involves circles, figure 8, etc. The moves are combined in a dance-like flow, not just a drill so you feel like you're actually dancing. If you are super fit, this won't make you break a sweat.

The Rhythm workshop, taught by Neon, is a little more vigorous, working with drum solo music. There is a teaching section where she breaks down all the moves, then there are 2 different flows of about 40 minutes each. 5 rhythms get 4 combos apiece. These range from simple to moderately difficult.

I second Luscious and Rhythms, I like them a lot. Flow is the right word to descripe them, the instruction portions are in seperate chapters, so no stopping for explanations. I use them and Temple of Jehan Ultimate Bellydance Workout, Drills drills drills and Body by Bellydance in rotation.

I've tried a few of Suhaila's Fitness Fusion DVDs. I think Buns is supposed to be the best of hers to start with. It's a lot of exercises to tone your buns, glutes, thighs, etc., to prepare for hip work.

I love Jillina's Shape Up and Hip Out to death! I also love Rania's Hip Drop Hip Hop and Too Hip. They are all great workouts that move you along at a progressive speed without getting boring.

For beginners, I suggest Veena and Neena's Bellydance Fitness for Beginners: Basic Moves and Slim Down.

For videos that are suitable for intermediates, I'd suggest Rania's Too Hip and Temple of Jehan Ultimate Belly Dance Workout. I'm not too fond of Rania's other workout videos, but I do like Too Hip. Her video titled My Personal Trainer is good too - I'm not too fond of its cardio segment, but its spot toning workouts are good and I find its format innovative.

For more advanced dancers, I suggest Keti Sharif's Body Quake Elements and World Dance Aerobics.

Re: What are your favorite bellydance workout dvds?

I just got Aubre's but it reminded me too much of Suhaila's DVDs, not enough original content - and I thought the Pilates section was too brief - I was hoping for more pilates due to the title.

I really like Luscious too. I find it very soothing, almost like a meditative session. It could be the music. The movements in it are very similar to what my teacher has us drill in class, so it's handy as a "more fun way" to drill than what we do in class.

Also a big fan of Lusciuos! I love that you get to drill mini combinations and the movement is beautiful, yet kicks my intermediate student butt.

Yes, I'd agree, Luscious is worth buying, you can usually get it very cheaply on amazon.

There's always Suzanna Delvechio's (sp?) dvd. The last 1/2 hr. is a workout.

A dancer by the name of Leela has a bellydance workout dvd. Has anyone ever tried it?

that's the one Only 42 mins of workout with 50 mins tutorial. It really tones all your muscles and refines moves. I like it cos in my clases we don't do combinations only the 8 16 or even 32!!! of one thing and it helps with transitions

I really like the Luscious Dvd, it is a fun workout but I have been using the Neon rhythm dvd more recently. I also like using Rania's Too Hip dvd but I am still not in shape enough to get thru the whole thing.

I really liked the AmiraMor workout video, but you need to know how to do some of the moves. If you have had some bellydance training it is a good video. What are Aziza's like?

I rented this and it wasn't my cup of tea. Does your copy have that distracting logo all down the left side of the screen?

Love the Temple of Jehan workout. I also like Dolphina's warrior Goddess workout although I'm not a big fan of her in general.

Hooked Novice: I think the logo is a feature on all copies, I'm afraid. I purchased it recently on Amazon and that logo issue was mentioned in the reviews. I haven't done the workout yet though, so I can't comment on that.

I would also recommend Luscious and Neon's bellydance party (it does get the heart rate up). If you are looking to target your arms, the Rachel Brice arms dvd is good.
