    Best drugststore hair care?

With the economic times being what they are, my family has decided to give up certain luxuries and the first one to go for me is the premium hair and skin care I've become accustomed to over the past few years. I'm running out of shampoo and conditioner right now and need to figure out what to buy next.

Anyone out there have any advice for the best shampoos/conditioners/sprays/leave-ins/mousses/waxes you can get in a drugstore for less than $10 a bottle, tub, or can? I do color my hair, so product geared towards helping retain color and/or repair damage from color would be what I'm looking for. Bonus points if it's organic or at least eco-friendly!

Thanks in advance for any insight you helpful bhuzzers might have!

Well, I've been in love with Garnier Fructis products for a while. I also love plain old Suave. The only product that I use on my hair that counts as organic (as far as I know) is Kiss My Face Every Day Shampoo (which I like a lot) and Dr. Bronner's. They're both really inexpensive and work well, but I don't think either are geared toward color retention.

If you like coconut, I recently bought some Organix coconut milk conditioner and deep conditioner from Target. I found I don't need to use a ton of it (like you sometimes need to do with watered down inexpensive products), they don't weigh my hair down, they condition nicely, and they smell WONDERFUL! I have not tried the shampoo, which was reviewed as being like a clarifying shampoo (not what I'm looking for), or anything else in their line of products, but I'm really happy with the conditioners.

My stylist uses L'Oreal's colorvive and suggests it over more expensive shampoos and conditioners. She also likes their bodyvive for volume.

Nexxis is currently in a lot of drugstores, and I love their hairsprays, which are just at the $10 mark, I think.

I shop at Walgreens (naturally!:)) and my husband and I both like the Pantene 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioner, thickening formula, but I follow it up w/a bout of Pantene conditioner for dry hair (b/c my long hair gets really dry and brittle, esp. in winter). I have splurged lately because Walgreens now carries Bumble & Bumble haircare brands, but I do alternate at times--also like L'Oreal haircare products...and hair-coloring products, too.

I like the Garnier Fructis as well. There was another thread about beauty products in general and someone said they liked the Tresseme hair care line. Here's a link to the thread.

Mane and Tail. $8 in my neck of the woods for a HUGE bottle of shampoo (same price for HUGE bottle of conditioner).

Check out a Sally's if there's one near you - they also have salon step-downs and the one near me has one or two organic brands as well (I don't care about the organic part but I happened to notice the bottles).

Kiss My Face sells online and they have at least two sales a year where you can stock up - I liked them too.

I too am a Garnier fan because their products are gentle AND <ding ding ding> they are on sale a lot!!

If you are interested in hair color, I find that Nice and Easy roots touchup is cheaper than doing the whole head. And it's not just for gray hair BTW.

Yep, Mane and Tail shampoo and Conditioner. You know, the stuff they use on horses. My son and I have used it for years. We switched for about a year to a "higher" class of product. Was less than pleased. When we switched back, Justin's response was, about time!

I HEART L'Oreal Color Vive or Vive Pro. It makes my hair soft, silky and smooth.

See.... Well, it's not the greatest picture but you can still see some shine on my hair and I DON'T use products. EWWWWW!

    Re: Best drugststore hair care?

What with my being jobless, I too had to give up my pricey shampoo and conditioner and found same quality in Pantene's "Ice Shine" shampoo and "Color Preserving Conditioner" - each about $7 and actually I think are doing a better job - especially the "Curl Defining" gel - also Pantene. My hair is layered, permed and colored so having the shine and color protection is a real benefit...g.:

I don't think I would in fact go back to the pricey products I was using which were only available at beauty supply and cost a whopping $ 25 each,m::!

I remember when I had to give up Aveda products when I left my day job. I still feel the pain - I loved that stuff.

I have good luck with Tresseme products.

I too am buying cheaper hair care, I always liked Aveda but it's pricey, I just got some new stuff from Target that's natural and 7.99 a 16.90z. It's called Say Yes to Carrots. It is working pretty well.

Having a juvenile moment, this just reminds me of Blades of Glory:

I stocked up the large sizes of Paul Mitchell a couple of months ago, so I good in that respect even though I lost my job. But I had to cancel my hair appointment, and the gray is starting to show...

Not a drugstore but if there's a Sally Beauty Supply near you I swear by the Proclaim Olive Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner...great for color-treated hair, makes it so shiny and a big-ass 16 oz bottle is around $5
