Is it from slack pooling around your waist or..erm...flesh rolls?
On me that is always because I'm short and the dress torso is too long. It can also be caused by the dress creeping up, possibly because it is a tad to tight in the hips.

no flesh rolls..but too tight in the hips is a possibility. My seamstress said it was because the zipper is non stretch and the fabric it is sewn onto stretches...but you know, they all do it, even the ones that fit well. I am beginning to think that if I remove the zipper and start a shorter one at the small of my back..it may help.

sew undies into your dress so the zipper can't move. It has nothing to do with the non stretch zipper/stretch fabric issue. Something somewhere is pulling....

Hey Anala, I bought that purty dress from you and had the same problem--after shortening the zipper it smoothed out alot. The darn things don't like to conform to our curves, do they? BTW I'll have photos of myself in the dress soon!

I have the same problem on all my dresses, because I'm a short torso. The hip width in the dress might be big enough, but it's not actually falling at the hip and the excess is scrunching up beneath the zipper. The only cure is to find dresses in "petite" sizes where the shoulder to waist is not as long. I'm not sure how this translate to a BD dress, though.

But I am very tall...with a long torso. I am wondering it they are too tight thru the rib cage so they dont "fall" properly.

Re: My humps...my humps..my unlovely lady humps...
I used to have that problem when making pvc clothing for goths - the pvc was tight and wouldn't sit low enough so the zips buckled. My solution was to sew a line of light boning along the side of the zip (rigilene or the other light plastic stuff) to stretch it out properly with the right curve. The fabric of your dresses might be too light to use that trick, but if it's more substantial, it might work.

Inexpensive, non-invasive alternative to consider. Wear a sturdy mesh garment underneath the dress - it might smooth the lines without any alterations. I wear a nude one with boy short legs. My dress skims the mesh and I appear to have lost almost all my lumps and bumps.

Sew undies inside. It will keep the zipper from riding up. It isn't that the zipper is too short. It is because it is too long. I swear! I swear! Number #1 alteration I am asked to do ALL THE TIME. You are not alone! =)
