my sister in law swears by green tea

she's always been a bit on the heavier side but i saw her this weekend and she looks 50 pounds lighter than the last time i saw her..

she says she gave up her morning cup of coffee and instead drinks green tea

something about how coffee spikes your insulin for nine hours? am going to see if i can look up more info

i've always had a secret inkling that if i could ditch the morning coffee it would help me lose the last bit of weight and also i may not have the carb attacks late in the day

I've heard green tea helps you lose weight. I try to drink it at around 3 or 4 when I get that afternoon slump and I want to snack. But unless I am pregnant, there is nothing that will make me give up my coffee!

i'm not a fan of green tea but swear but a morning cup of hot water with freshly squeezed lemon or lime. i feel so much better in the morning and helps to fill up my belly right from the get go.

i also love chai (herbal, not made with black tea) with almond milk and will often drink it in the evening and/or after i teach. it really fills me up and puts me in the mood to sleep. i also find it gets rid of the after class munchies because it's so satisfying.

I Love green tea! I'm not sure if it helps you lose weight, but I do find it "cuts the richness" after a heavy meal. It's so clean and satisfying, and I am sensitive to caffeine, and have never had problems.

I, too, enjoy green tea. And, I've also heard about the weight loss effects of sipping it instead of coffee. I used to drink green tea in the morning but I've gone back to my one cup of coffee in the morning and green tea later in the day or after supper.

Yes there is caffeine in green tea, though generally less than in coffee. Also depends on the type, processing, and preparation.

I drink green tea in the afternoon, and it does a pretty good job with stopping the afternoon snack cravings.

I drink green tea every day because I like it, but it does nothing for me other than the hydration (and exercise to the bathroom - I drink 3-4 cups a day and it goes right through me ha ha).

There's no weight loss magic in green tea (oh how I wish it were that easy!)...correlation does not imply causation.

I live in Japan, land of Green Tea day in and day out. Looking around at my c-workers I can assure you that green tea isn't a magic bullet. Those that eat a more highly-processed western diet (including Japanese deepfried foods) don't magically stay thin.

I drink it every day, but my diet fluctuates for reasons that have nothing to do with green tea.

If the placebo effect works for you, go with it. Cutting back on coffee might be good for you, green tea or no.

Question: you all are drinking your coffee black and unsweetened, right? You're not actually drinking milk with coffee in it? Because milk is somewhat fattening. Whereas I've never heard of anyone putting milk in green tea.

I like green tea and find it refreshing but I don't know if it helps people lose weight or not. In Chinese cultures there are teas - some green, some not, I think - that are believed to cut the fat that is absorbed after a meal.

I drink sencha and matcha green tea and even have a cup before bedtime.. it knocks me out. I am very sensitive to cafeine and therefore don't drink coffee, but somehow green tea, even if it does have some cafeine, doesn't affect me at all. It even has the opposite effect and calms me down. I assume the body metabolises green tea caffeine differently.

I just got this in my inbox and it made me think of this thread:

It says the effective amount is 7 cups daily though... .w.:

The main health benefit of green tea is the antioxidants that may lower certain cancer risks.

Also, if drinking unsweetened green tea replaces soda or diet soda, there may be weight-loss benefit from that substitution. Some recent studies have shown that artificial sweeteners make it harder to lose excess weight and/or maintain a healthy weight.

i'm also wondering if any studies they have done have taken into consideration the amount of sugar and cream that may be dumped into one cup of coffee (like someone like me )

maybe it's not coffee itself that spikes the levels but the amount of sugars..but that depends on who's drinking it..and what they are adding to the coffee. sodas may have a similar effect

anyways i'm about to turn into the ***** of the century, as soon as we move to oahu i'm going to stop doing the morning coffee

Also, if you drink a cup of green tea instead of a snack, that cuts out a bunch of calories a day. It is more dieting through behavior modification than "green tea is a wonder weight loss drug". Hot liquids seem to be able to satisfy "hunger" cravings more than cool ones (seeming more like a snack in themselves).

Drinnking my morning green tea now! It is sooo good iced and mixed with just a little bit of lilikoi (passion fruit) juice. Not sure if it helps me with the weight battle but it keeps me from overdoing coffee and that has to be a good thing. Everything in moderation I say.

There is something in coffee, not the caffience, that bloats your skin. I saw it in oprah years ago for a book "the perricone promise"
