Belt base frustration!
Aaaaargh!!! I've just ruined two belt bases trying to get the darned things to fit. ,m:: I'm dying to make a cobalt blue tribaret costume, I've got the supplies, and no decent belt base. I've got a pretty defined waist and a big ol' butt, roundish tummy and I'm really short, so you can imagine my belts have to be pretty narrow because when I lift a leg the top of my thigh bumps into the bottom of the front piece of belt. I've read the threads on the Sugar Petals bases and it seems like they're not what I'm looking for. My alterations to my patterns aren't working either. Any sources for belt bases good for girls with big bottoms and thighs? Please, oh please, oh please!..cr.: I'm really bummed here.

Re: Belt base frustration!
From your description, doozer, I would suggest using the kismet style belt from sugar petals. You might want to make it a little narrower. Perhaps cutting a full inch off the bottom. Then you need to pin it on yourself and dart the heck out of it both top and bottom. It might be easier if you could have a friend help you with this. Wherever it gaps at the top and bottom, just take a pinch of the excess on the base and fold it over and pin it. Once you've got a base full of darts, sew them all down. You'll end up with a very custom fitting costume in the end.
