Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
I'm working on adjusting a costume I just bought from the swap meet. Some of the beading was coming undone so I'm going through and re-attaching it. Also going to put elastic in the waistband and making adjustments to the bra.

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
oh boy. here's me long a$$ list of things that need to get done but we'll see if I'll be able to even get to some of these this month:
-add elastic to my turquoise cossie, orange bella, and magenta cossie. loosen elastic on my hot pink cossie; tighten elastic on my rainbow hannan
-finish adding evil eye beads to my black bedlah; add hooks to it and readjust straps
-add gold detailing and fringe to my white bedlah (trying to make it a white & gold costume)
-add a scarab to my hot pink
-take out the posts in my wings and put in nicer ones (have to do that ASAP since i'll be using them on friday)
-start workin on either my teal & burgundy or red & black costume project (still waiting for sugar petals supplies to come in)
-sketch out my newest costume idea
-once my orange skirt comes in, attach to orange bella to lenghten it
-find turquoise fabric to add lenght to my turquoise cossie (would like to do this ASAP as well since I want to wear it on Friday but I guess the world won't end if I show a little more ankle in the back lol)
-put hooks on my green

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
I am making a very lightweight linen circle skirt (with the slits up both legs), running embroidery down the edges of the slits. Its looking utterly fabulous, but I ran out of embroidery thread last night, so had to get more today. Hopefully I can run the rest of the embroidery this evening and assemble it this week.
I am making this as a more earthy skirt to wear with my Costless belt that my awesome BF bought me last summer. (Previously I wore it with a old school chiffon and sequin circle skirt and with Ghawazee coats).
I love the belt so much that I want to be able to use it for various "looks"!

I finished the gold bedlah (fitting, blinging and lining, not building), and am building a mermaid skirt and bolero out of glitter slinky and a body stocking to wear with. Pics when I get a moment.

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
OK me « three » with my list :
-Fishining a lime green silk skirt: waistband and elastic;
-Continuing my leopard cossie, that I have put on the ice since nov.
-Completely “renovate” and upgrade an old silver bedlah that I got from a generous Bhuzzer (only paid for the shipping!)..g.:
-Making a silver belt for my friend Lubna to go with a silver sequin bra that I also got for free from a other Bhuzzer (you gals are generous persons!) ,r:;
-I have a royal blue and silver project bedhal for my young gazelle protéjé, Florence (it’s a surprise, she doesn’t know yet)
-Altering a black and silver saidi dress so I can fit in it…
But first: I have started to work on …. Myself! Yes, I have recently been to my doctor and she wasn’t thrill with the fact that I have gained 14 pounds this year (well! I am not thrill with it either!,m::) And that my blood pressure is still reads borderline.
So I have started training in a gym close to my office, and everyday for this past month some girls colleges and I have been taking our two breaks a day to take the stairs down and then up to the 10th floor. Yeh!
Thinking of it if I keep this up, I won’t have to alter the black and silver saidi dress, he, he, he!

- some chiffon veils to be cut and trimmed
- new costume design and decoration
- get ready for Jamila Salimpour Level II workshop coming up to test Level II
- facial (soon)
- massage for upper back (having problems with my upper back/neck/shoulder muscles lately)
- prep combos with finger cymbals for the private and group students

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
mainly working on alterations for a show on the 12th...
adding drapes to the arm cuffs of my Bella, and fixing a skirt for a friend.
Last month I made 60+ chiffon veils so I'm kinda sick of sewing.
Need to take a break and just make some monkeys instead.
So much more fun.

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
I need to make some adjustments to my gold coin bedlah. I want to convert it from a halter to regular straps. My boobs are just too heavy to accomodate a halter neck. I also need to adjust the straps on my pink lycra cossie.
And my favoritest project right now is my red bedlah. I'm tried making bedlah before, but none of the really came out looking like I had envisioned them. This red one though is just making me a proud as punch. The belt and bra have a red velvet base and I've added dark red and AB crystals to the surface and am currently working on the fringe. Hand beading fringe sucks, but I'm really liking the outcome so far!

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
I shortened my straps on my cream and gold bra.
I changed the back medallion on the gold belt that the bra goes with and added more swags of chain. The design on the back now has a much better scale.
I finished sort of with my new gored skirt, but it is not what I envisioned so i am scheming on how to add a ruffled front edge to the slit. I'm so mad a screwed up this beautiful lace.
I would like to make a new pair of wristlets this week, but I don't know if I'll have time : (
Uh, that's just this weeks projects...

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
Started ripping side seams of a rayon dress I'm turning into a ghawazee jacket. Seams are tough (small dark and tight) and I'm going to buy a good set of sewing shears instead and cut close to the seams. The four parts of the lower coat don't need to be exactly 1/4 of a skirt, right? Who is going to know? It will be over the top of a 25 yard skirt anyhoo.
Thinking of stealing some time and driving an extra 80 miles Wednesday to go to a JoAnn's ... better take the checkbook!!!

Working on adjusting a costume that I bought in the Swap meet. Making my very first costume. Almost finished with the belt. Will take a photo of it once I get a chance. I am actually making this costume with some left over glitter dot fabric I had from a skirt I made. I wanted to practice constructing a costume with less expensive fabric before I make a costume with this beautiful fabric I bought which was pretty expensive. I think it is turning out pretty well.

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
Ozma, that's beautiful!!
I am trying to turn buyer's remorse into motivation. I have a costume that looked so good when I tried it on (about a year ago), but when I got it home, I realized how flawed it was. I'm doing a lot of rearranging, strengthening, tightening, and removing.
Last night, I removed the dangling beads, retrung them on stronger thread, and sewed them on - this time properly centered. I also took a pair of wire cutters to those strings of prong-set stones. So many of the little stones had fallen out ... I'm not really sure what to do about that.
Also, I'm finally buying a skirt for a belt set I bought over the summer and putting padding in the bra from that set.

hey leyla,
how small are the stones? one of my students found really cheap tiny rhinestone earrings and used those to replace some of the tiny stones that she was missing.

I keep saying every month I am going to get organized. But instead I'm working on more zills practice. Oh, and developing patience for a couple of ventures that have little hope of getting off the ground <LOL>

Ozma this peacock costume is beautiful and inspirational. I am considering tackling a similar project (henna style pattern, not peacocks) with some gorgeous material I've had hanging around for a while.

I'm making a dress (LRose baladi style) to go with my aqua bra. its nearly done. I started it today. I only do really quick sewing designs I get discouraged very easily. i'll try to post it tomorrow when its finished.
Now I've said that I'm hoping that it will spur me on to finish it and not throw it back in the sewing projects box.

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
Took a few pics of the skirt that's almost done. Unfortunately, the pics dont do it justice. Its actually a wine color, super light weight linen, and I did the embroidery in hunter green, apple green and a pale peach. After I get the length cut, I will finish the hem with hunter bias tape. Also making hunter harem pants to wear with it (the skirt has 2 slits, with the embroidery lining the slits).
I have a coin bra to go with the belt, and will also make a underbust choli in the linen to go with it. I just need to decide where on the choli I want to add the embroidery.
(Please pardon the sewing room disaster. . . .)

Re: "What are you working on?" - February 2009
Yup, I have a Viking/Husqvarna Designer SE machine (my BF got it for me, he's the BEST). Sewing on it is a delight, and I've had a blast embellishing things with the embroidery functions. Below are a couple pics of costumes I did using the machine embroidery. The red and black has the hipscarf and the sleeves embroidered and the other (the teal/blue) has an embroidered belt with embroidered and beaded medallions at the sides, and embroidered sleeves on the choli.

Thanks, I think my next project will be to design a bedlah and digitize the design, and use the machine to embroider it with metallic threads, and then I will hand bead accents on it. . . will see how that one goes, lol
