Ack! Nisima melts big hole in new veil!!!!

Yes, after carefully hand hemming and attaching trim to my lovely white gossamer opalescent veil, I tried to steam iron it and even though I tested iron on a small piece of the fabric I wound up *melting* a big hole in the veil!..cr.:..cr.:..cr.:..

*sigh* - so I wound up trimming 8" off the veil, both sides because I had cut it into a rounded shape before hemming and trimming and now it's just a tad too short for my 5'4" height and length of arms. So, after giving it to a dancer who is 5'1" off to the fabric store I went to get more material becuse I need this veil to go with a gold/aurora jewels/white costume for an upcoming performance.

Just wanted to post this in case any of you buy this fabric - do not, under any circumstances, try to iron it with a conventional steam iron - the pressure and weight of iron is too risky - hard to disguise a big hole! The description on the material bolt says "dry clean only". I've ironed many a tissue lame or metallic poly veil or even silk or chiffon veil before with no problem but this fabric is some sort of mylar infused crinkle material. Very pretty, but comes with deep creases from being on the bolt.on the bolt in the fabric store.

What did work very well to get creases out of the new material I bought yesterday was the steamer hubby bought me for Xmas that I was just too stupidly lazy to get out of it's big box and set up. It's one of those steamers that has a big canister for the water and a long hose and you run the steamer-applicator lightly inside the fabric as it hangs on a hanger and it really does a great job.

So today I am all set up to hand hem the new veil and then attach trim. Hard lesson learned the hard way!.w.:

I usually try to "test" iron projects like that on a scrap of fabric - not the finished project. So sorry this happened to you.... ((hugs))

    ACK indeed!

So glad you were able to get more of the fabric!

I've slightly melted tissue lame before . . . after I had used it to make the back strap on a new costume bra. I'd had so much trouble making that darned strap, though, that I decided to use the piece anyway; you'd really have to be looking for the fault to find it.

    I hope. .w.:

    PS thanks for the tip!
