how to defeat the bush
when i was in phoenix i had my hair dyed a deep burgundy wine with copper and blond highlights on top..it looked saaaweet because in the desert my hair hangs straight and sleek so you could see all the strands of highlights
now that i'm back in the wetlands it's turned into bush again and the thin sleek highlights look like large clumps of light hair. dumb.
is there any way to straighten my hair!! i have that straighten cream you are supposed to use when you blow dry your hair ..i blow dry by section using a round brush like they showed me but to flat iron all this may take a few days. is that the only way to do it? just suck it up and flat iron?
fyi no green hair from dyeing over henna. i had previously posted about having thin highlights put in with no bad effect but while we were in arizona i had the whole thing done and no bad effect at all..i use light mountain henna and also that expensive punjabi stuff

Re: how to defeat the bush
My daughters have hair straighteners that they use... wet 2 straight is one of them. They like them. I think they got them at Target. (They inherited their Dad's hair - mine is straight all the time).

I've used Rusk's Str8 with a decent amount of success. Still have to either blowdry and/or flat iron my hair if I want it to cooperate.

Same here. And kinda sorta knowing you, Jes, I thought for SURE it was gonna be about matching your carpet to your curtains. ..l;,
I don't know what to tell you. I used to have this hair. When I lived in 'Zona, poifectly straight and nice. When I lived in Singapore or Japan in the summer time: *BOOOF* no matter how much anti-humectant I used. I've spent literally $1,000s on my hair to get it straight. Now it's the smoothest it's been in my whole life and I don't have to do anything to it. I don't know what changed (age, hormones, location, perhaps).
The thing is to get as much moisture out of the hair as possible. Blow dry straight AND apply the ceramic (CHI is the best brand in my professional opinion) iron, holding a fine-tooth HARD RUBBER (else it will melt) comb in front of the iron as you work your way down (it detangles it just before pressing). Then apply a thin layer of anti-humectant pomade like Aveda's "Brilliant" Anti-Humectant. Don't wash your hair as much and just baby powder the scalp to dry wash (Bumble & Bumble carries super, COLORED powders for this purpose).

I had a girlfriend who had very frizzy hair and we lived in Seattle! She solved the problem by buying perm solution and combing it through her hair (instead of rolling it for curls). It worked well for her. I have bone straight hair so her experience is the only one I have!

Flatirons work great. When I was in high school everyone used to iron their hair with a "real iron.' I have naturally wavy and frizzy hair, and when I lived on the East Coast I would straighten it, and as soon as I walked outside, it went POOF!!!!!!!
