Curly Girls-Are there any others?
I have just started the curly girl method and wondered if there are any others out there and how they like it ? So far it seems to work for me, I never realized how curly my hair really is. I will post a before and after in a week or so.

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
Me! I love it!!!! I wish it wasn't as expensive as it is, but I am using way less, so I guess it equals out.
I think there was a thread on this over on the off topic...

I think there's a whole thread on this somewhere. But yes, there are quite a few others of us on Bhuz!

I am one, too. I've not used shampoo in a couple of years! My hair is much happier now.

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
I have not read the book. I don't know what advice it gives.
However, I can say that once I simply quit using a blow dryer, putting some styling product in my hair after washing to encourage the existing natural wave to show itself, and letting my hair air dry, I've been amazed at how much natural wave I actually have! I love my hair's current behavior.

Mine too and it feels so much healthier. Which it needs because it's pretty long and "older" hair gets more fragile. Using blow dryers and curlers for some will stress out the hair much faster.

I haven't read the book, but from what I've heard about it, it sounds pretty close to what I do.

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
I started doing the conditioner-wash, but find it a bit difficult after a while. However, I have a friend who has similar hair to mine and she just goes through and snips at the split ends on different curls (so while the hair appears to be a uniform length, each curl may be varied). Coupling that with not using shampoo seems to be perfect for my hair.

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
I SO recommend it!
One time I skimmed the book at the store and tried washing with conditioner for a couple weeks. It didn't work. At ALL.
Then I met Damiena- and it worked for her...so I was inspired to buy the book and read it cover to cover. Knowing the WHOLE thing and being able have lots of options to experiment with makes a big difference in finding what's right for YOU.
It's been about a year and a half for me- shampoo free!

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
I am a curly girl too:) I haven't used shampoo in almost 6 months now and my curls are much more manageable and good looking then ever before. My daughter is a spiral girl but I have more of the botacelli curls going on. I love the book and it was only like $10 on Amazon.com

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
What about if your hair is more wavy light curls. I find that when I conditioner my hair too much it weights down my curls and I'm neither straight nor gorgeous?

Thank you, I'll need to see if the stores near me carry the naturals line, I live way out in the boonies.

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
I'm a straight hair curly-girl, for all of the contradiction implicit in that! Even though I barely have a wave at all, my hair is much more manageable and healthy looking since I gave up shampoo.
It's one of those things that it can't hurt to try, after all. If it doesn't work for you, you've only lost a week or so. If it does, you'll be gratified by how good your hair looks and feels.

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
Just did the no poo conditioner wash and plopped my hair for the first time. We'll see how this works. I usually braid my hair at night to keep it out of my mouth when sleeping.

How to Follow the Curly Girl Method for Curly Hair - wikiHow
i have given up on actually owning this book...i've lent it out to friends twice and have yet to have either copy returned to me... luckily there is this online source. I really like the "plopping" hair drying method and have found that Suave Naturals is cheap and good to use as a cleaning conditioner.

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
Report on first plop! It was wonderful. I slept with my hair plopped and in the morning took the tee shirt off to find wonderful, shiny curls. That was Monday night. Now on Wednesday curls have relaxed some, but no frizzies and still looks great. I am sold on this!

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
I am wavy and straight. I am started last year spring and still happy with it. I didn't use shampoo for a while but then tried using shampoo (just half of teaspoon)every 1-2 weeks, as recommended. this works better for my hair. my hair is not as static anymore and has more volume. I am using Natures gate conditoner and don't leave in to much as this straightens my hair. I like the curly hair method it's good for my hair and easy, no blow dryer anymore.

Re: Curly Girls-Are there any others?
I tried it for awhile and gave up. My scalp got so greasy, it was gross. My daughter tried it and didn't keep up with it. She has very thick tight corkscrew type curls. The kind of hair we all want and she hates it. All she does is put it up in a ponytail.
