    MAC Attack?

I think I'm finally going to bite the bullet and go the MAC counter to get a full makeover for performances. I want that sultry va-va-VOOM sort of look, but I'm not quite sure how to phrase this to the makeup artists - would they understand what I'm going for if i just asked for that? Also, how much does the full makeover package cost at MAC? Since I have generally clear skin/even tone, do I need to bother with foundation?

Thanks for helping this makeup noob! ..l;,

    Pictures, pictures, pictures, pictures!

Your "vava VOOM" may not be the same as the MUA's "vava VOOM." Visual references will be the best way for both of you to be on the same page.

    ita with azhia. pics

if you are gonn a buy a lot of mac, first get in their ppid program. saves you 30% and pays for itself in one makeover purchase and then some.

MAC Pro | Membership | Benefits

i've been doing it for years and saved tons of $

buy products from mac pro site or mac pro stores, not counters in dept stores.

Yes, even with clear even skin foundation is a must for stage makeup!

I did this with my daughter at the MAC counter at Macy's. you have to commit to buying at least $50 worth of makeup per appointment, which is insanely easy to do. we spent too much that day!

I was wanting a fancy do, and didn't communicate it clearly, she gave me an every day/evening do, which is nice. my daughter wanted anime eyes, and I got to watch her do those, which was great. I highly recommend going with a friend and taking turns because then you get to watch and learn more-

    have fun!

    Re: MAC Attack?

Well, when I got my MAC stage makeover, I spent almost $400 in makeup and tools. Every single cent of it was worth it -- I STILL have some of the eyeshadows (they last insanely long), and I've never found better products for stage. When MAC says it's waterproof -- it's WATERPROOF.

And yes, you need foundation! It's a must, no matter what -- if nothing else, it will anchor the rest of your makeup.

    Re: MAC Attack?

I had a photo shoot a couple years ago, I went to the Mac counter early in the day when it is quiet. If they are not busy they will practically give you a make-up class.
I had a couple of dvd covers with Bd dancers who had make -up I liked and 2 of make-up I really didnt like at all.

The make-up artist was a drag queen on week-ends and had lots of fun doing a diva look for me. ( no wonder I go for the drag queen eyes when I put on my make-up for a show). The pictures gave him a clear idea of what I wanted and he showed me how to get the look I liked.
He was really happy when I brought him my business card after a while to thank him for the make-up class he gave me.
The makeover was free cause I bought about 175$ of stuff, then he wrote down everything he had used and that I didnt buy that day so I could go back later on. It was a good investement. I still use the tips he gave me and that make-up lasts forever.

Also, your teacher and I are discussing possibilities for doing "something" out there that involves makeup.

    Re: MAC Attack?

As long as you buy a few things, they're usually very willing to help you try stuff on and achieve the effects you want. I went last week to try out the studio sculpt foundation and ended up getting a whole new look with a visual chart of what she had applied and the product names. She also showed me how to take it from a day look to evening just by adding a couple of things. Just go at a time when they're not busy. I did end up spending about $250 though.

Another thing, don't skimp on your brushes. Having the right tools makes a lot of difference.

Really?? That sounds fantastic! :D You have to keep me posted - I'll corral every dancer I know to come take a class with you!

What do you all think of this sort of look for bellydance?

I love the eyes in this pic and I would like to be able to go blood/vampire red on lips, or peach, depending on the venue. Would that work?

I think the makeup in that picture is too tame for a dance glam look. I think that you would wind up with an every day look applied to you.

    Re: MAC Attack?

If you're going to go with a more peachy color, I'd go with something stronger. The color on her looks like one of those "my lips but better" looks.

Random quick warning about MAC: before you invest in the foundation, you may want to give it a few days before you commit. The Select SPF liquid broke out my skin like crazy and turned a weird orangish shade on me after a few hours of wearing it. I don't normally break out either, and I've heard of other people having that problem.

They do let you return stuff, but I always hate doing that.

Try for more emphasis on the eyes. With or without the inner eye liner. For example:

    Re: MAC Attack?

I dunno, for Tanith, who has fair skin/fair hair, I like the Keira Knightley application. It also depends on which features she wants to emphasize. If it's the eyes, then yes, go for the Arab eyes, if it's lips or face structure, emphasize those.

I don't think every belly dancer has to have dark, smokey eyes; nor can every dancer necessarily pull it off. (Not to say that Tanith cannot pull it off.)

Agreed, I really like the first look as well. I think it looks very modern and is beautiful without being too "in your face". Pardon the pun. ;) I would go a bit darker on the lips though.

Like some pp have said, usually the MAC makeover is free but you have to buy something, which is usually not a problem since their stuff is awesome! Has anyone seen the new Hello Kitty by MAC line? It's awesome!

There are also great ressources on Youtube check out "makeup by Tiffany D" I love her videos and her tips work.

    Re: MAC Attack?

I used to go in and ask "can you do me up like a drag queen cleopatra?" :)

in my experience, the makeup artists are usually excited to have a chance to do something out-there and dramatic for stage instead of the same old everyday stuff.

    Re: MAC Attack?

Here's some earlier threads on make-up for blondes:
    http://www.bhuz.com/forum/fitness-be...p-blondes.html
    http://www.bhuz.com/forum/fitness-be...llydancer.html

I got inspired by these threads to go visit my MAC counter. As luck would have it, one of the artists behind the counter was blonde and sported a smokey-eyed look, so I could just say "Show me how to do that!" It was super-helpful and I've completely altered my eye-makeup since then (I believe for the good!). The best products I bought on the day were (1) 'painterly' which is a creme shadow that goes on under eyeshadow and stops it moving (it really works), and (2) their eyeshadow brushes. I had no idea how much of a difference a decent brush makes compared to the usual sponge-tipped applicator.

Enjoy being MAC'ed. And welcome to the fan club!
