bra cup issues
Im adjusting some new costume bras to fit. I can get the straps and padding working fine but the top edge of the cup isnt laying against my skin. Its only a small amount and I could dance in it like that, but I just dont like the idea that my padding may be exposed. Any ideas on how I could get it to lay right?
Thanks!..g.:

Re: bra cup issues
It's a quick hack, but maybe get some of a matching (enough) fabric - a small bit - and sew it to the inside of the cup right in that area - that way, if a bit of it does show, it is the same color as the outside? It won't fix it, but will make it less noticable.

Re: bra cup issues
A lot of it depends on the positioning of the straps, but if all else fails, I added a second little bit to the strap to hold it in firmer to me, when I had this problem. So there is a small triangle where the strap attaches to the front of the bra. It's this costume:

Re: bra cup issues
I have a Turkish costume with a wire edge along the bra cups, so it can be molded to fit closer. Without seeing the bra, I don't know if you could run a wire along the inside edge of the cups, but you might be able to baste in some craft wire, either by sewing around the wire directly or by using narrow ribbon or bias tape to make a casing. Most craft stores carry jewelry wire and thread-wrapped floral wire in different gauges. If you decide to add wiring, wet a snip of wire first to make sure it won't rust (from sweating) before you sew it in!

Re: bra cup issues
Changing the angle between the cups will change the angle of the cup relative to the body.
lay the bra flat on a table in front of you. move the side bands up so that it looks more like a "V". If it already makes a V. make a steeper V. This is the angle change that might help you. Now depending on how the bra is assembled, you may have to take the bra apart between the cups and reassemble, depending on the bra construction.
If you ever have a bra that squishes you flat like breast armor, a change in the opposite direction may help make a more flattering fit (e.g. reangle the cups so that when laying flat, the bra makes more of an inverted "V".

Re: bra cup issues
A quick fix that Sahar Okasha recommends (and I've used successfully quite a few times) is to either
1) move where the shoulder straps attach tot he bra cups in towards the center a small amount
or
2) Keep them where they are, BUT pinch the inner edge of the strap towards the top edge of the cup a tiny bit and sew them there. Usually between 1/4 and 1/2 inch will do the trick. If it's more than a 1/2 inch do #1 and move the straps.

Re: bra cup issues
I've had the same problem happen before and for the life of me I could never get it to work out correctly.
It's good to have some options to help correct this in the future.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: bra cup issues
I've done a combination of both adding wire and angling the bra straps a little, and it has worked wonders. I used an old coat hanger for the wire, sewn in with string, which worked great. I pad the bra fat and angled with no padding at the top, and line it with matching lining. When I take the time to do this, the bra only gaps if I really cave my shoulders in or do some weird maneuver.
good luck with your adjustments.
