Another shoe thread
I was wondering if these would be appropriate for restaurant work?
They have lights in them. Could be pretty shimmying across the floor. Also good to light the way in nightclubs, etc. ..g.:
Seriously though, I'm looking at hermes style sandals & wonder if anyone's got the ones Mesmera sells & how you like them & ditto on Aruba's Oasis sandals. With Aruba's I'm curious about the rubber sole vs. leather (Is the rubber sole thick or fairly thin?)Last edited by TexasRuya; 02-17-2009 at 11:56 PM.

Re: Another shoe thread
I got a pair of the Native Earth sandals, which is I believe what Mesmera has, mine are a style variation w/o the toe hold and they have the black rubber sole. I love them as street wear, they are very pretty and comfortable. Great shoes, and money well spent. However, for dancing, not so fabulous, I find. The rubber soles are very sticky, and the whole shoes is not a dance shoe in terms of support for my taste and feet: Mine are relatively heavy and very wide and comfy (that may well be the combination of sole and size - esp. the "wide" is a big plus for my wide feet). Still, great shoes.

Re: Another shoe thread
Ok, no offense to anyone who likes the blinky shoes, but all I can think is "Hooker" when I see them. Personally, I don't like drawing any more attention to my feet than necessary and a blinking neon sign that says "Look at my feet" isn't what I want when I dance.
My favorite hermes sandals in the world are made by Leo's. They're soft, flexible and comfortable and I've had them for years and they still look new.

Re: Another shoe thread
i have a pair of aruba's sandals with a rubber sole. the sole is very thin and comfy BUT unless you need to do a lot of outdoor dancing, i'd go with leather. the rubber tends to catch horribly on any fabric and can make dancing in skirts kinda squirrely.
my husband would LOVE those shoes! which means they are totally inappropriate for bd!..l;,

Good lord with those on I might hit the ceiling! That would be cool, they would make me about 6' 3"! Hey if they just sold a matching light up belt that yelled look at my hips they would most likely sell!

Re: Another shoe thread
I hope I didn't offend anyone joking about those shoes. I just got a funny mental image of someone dancing (or trying to) in those 7 inch platform heels, blinking with every step, shimmy & hip drop they did.
Good to know about Aruba's rubber soles; do you know if the leather ones are suede on the bottom or regular leather? Wondering if the leather would have enough grip for indoor (restaurant, bellygram type stuff) dancing?
I'm a former barefoot dancer, but one gig at someone's outdoor pool party (not smooth cement around the pool...pointy pebbles, owch!) followed by a particularly nasty VFW bar floor converted me to ballerina flats for safety & sanitary reasons, but I don't much like the look personally & would rather the sandal look.

Re: Another shoe thread
i also prefer dancing barefoot, but i've been trained to always wear shoes dancing outside or in restaurants!
i'm not sure about the leather soles. i know quite a few dancers with leather Arubas who rave about them, never any complaints about them being too slippery. you can always email Aruba, she's a sweetheart and a dancer so she understands all of these concerns.

I think they're exactly the thing if you're dancing at a restaurant in Lebanon or Turkey!!

I don't know about light up belts, but check out the bras and accessories at this site. I've personally been eyeballing the light and maribou bra; or flashing red and green lights for Xmas

Re: Another shoe thread
I have the leather Aruba's sandals and I LOVE them! They are kinda sueded I guess you could say? Not slick in any way---I've worn them indoors on all types of surfaces and never had any trouble.
Best investment by far of my bellydance purchases. Since you can deisgn them to what you need, they look fantastic with everything, and are super comfy.
I don't wear them outside though, ever.
