I'm gathering some ideas for an event organizer and need your opinions because they do matter!
Please answer the following:
1) If you were to take a makeup workshop, what would be the most important/helpful topic for you?
2) Would you want the workshop to be hands-on or demonstration-based?
3) Based on #1 above, would you expect supplies to be covered or would you be fine bringing what you have?
Thanks so much!

Re: Makeup Workshop Quick Poll
Oooh, fun topic! I probably wouldn't take a makeup workshop -- I'm satisfied with my makeup skizzles. (not that I'm perfect at it, just that there are things I'm way suckier at and I need to spend my workshop money on those!!)
But I've heard a lot from my students over the years, and I think I can answer for them.
#1) False eyelashes. Immediately followed by 'how much is enough' for various situations.
#2) A combination. Maybe you demonstrate first on yourself/a model, then they try it on themselves and you give them feedback, assistance, correction.
#3) Tough one. They ought to bring their own and work with the materials they'll actually be using, but many won't have any and won't want to buy the wrong things before the class. Is it possible to say 'bring it if you got it, if not supplies will be provided for an additional $10 fee.' or something?
Or include the cost of materials (by this I mean disposable applicators and community products, not a set for each person) but invite people to bring their own if they want help using what they've already got? That might be better, because someone may bring *completely* useless and inappropriate products to the workshop but not want to pay to use the workable stuff.
My students would LOVE this, by the way.

Re: Makeup Workshop Quick Poll
Oh I would love this!!!!
Incidently I am attending a how to do the false eyelashes clinic in March:) Yeah!
#1 Stage makeup for beginners! Color combos that work with your coloring and costuming
#2 Definitely demonstrate but then let me do it. Maybe let people work in partners? I need the hands on part as that is how I learn although as a college prof I have to tell you that to reach all the learning styles you'll need handouts too:) Tell us how (auditory), show us in handouts with pretty faces and diagrams (visual), and then let us try (kinesthetic). I also second the going around and giving tips and feedback throughout the room. (can you tell I just got done teaching? lol)
#3 bringing what I have might work but what if I have it all wrong and then I take the workshop and am like OH NO now what do I do? So I think maybe having samples that people could use would be really helpful and even a vending area that sold the full size ones would also be helpful. I know that would work well for me but someone who performs all the time and has a zillion dollars invested in makeup might just want to bring their own.

Re: Makeup Workshop Quick Poll
I've taken a makeup workshop before
1) Learning about makeup in different situations. Understanding how certain color lights work with makeup.
2) Both? I think demos are good to show people that the makeup does make a difference, especially if you highlight how and what you did. Hands on is good, perhaps to nicely tell people what they could do differently or for people to demonstrate what they have problems with.
3) Bring my own. There are too many people with too many different skin shades.

1) If you were to take a makeup workshop, what would be the most important/helpful topic for you? False eyelashes and general stage makeup tips.
2) Would you want the workshop to be hands-on or demonstration-based?Both, pick someone and show us how it works on her face and then let us try it on our own.
3) Based on #1 above, would you expect supplies to be covered or would you be fine bringing what you have? Bring my own but maybe have a "what to bring" list that specifies what will be useful at the workshop sent out with confirmed registrations

1) If you were to take a makeup workshop, what would be the most important/helpful topic for you?
-->What looks good on different skin tones and facial/eye/lip structures and WHY (i.e. how to enhance your best features)
--> Hands on help for technique/application
2) Would you want the workshop to be hands-on or demonstration-based?
--> A mix of both. Demonstration, followed by hands-on, during which the teacher goes around and corrects everyone (maybe partners-exercises, too, so people can learn to apply makeup on other people?)
3) Based on #1 above, would you expect supplies to be covered or would you be fine bringing what you have?
--> I think "bring what you have or buy our kit" works well. Just make sure that people know that if they don't have a lot of good makeup already, they won't get as much as they can out of the workshop.
Hope to see you in AZ!! I'll mention it to my teacher that several of my friends and I would love a makeup workshop ;)

Re: Makeup Workshop Quick Poll
1. Color combination and blending techniques.
2. I definitely think both is the way to go. The only way to get better is to practice.
3. I'd recommend that they bring what they have, but there should be a pre-determined list of what to bring. I'd also include recommended places to get these products and group them based on price.

Re: Makeup Workshop Quick Poll
Great thread! I am hosting a make up workshop for my performance group next weekend, so right on time!
I am concentrating on eyes. I am covering foundation and other aspects as well. However from what I hear from my ladies (who nudged me to do this for them) is, how the heck do you make up eyes? So I guess that would be what to work on? I am
I am doing a hands on workshop (informal, for sure! At my house). We are then taking some pictures after. (of course I am hoping I do a good job teaching since we are taking pictures of the group with the make up!).

Re: Makeup Workshop Quick Poll
this may be a tangent but how about some info on facials, at home chemical peels, moisturizers, good makeup removers, etc

Re: Makeup Workshop Quick Poll
Sounds promising!
1) Stage makeup, versus performance makeup for intimate venues and suggested palettes for varied skin tones.
2) Both
3) I'd be fine bringing what I had. Perhaps a list of bare bones supplies could be suggested before the workshop and/or some made available for sale at the workshop? The dancers will need their own to work with after the workshop anyway.

Please answer the following:
1) If you were to take a makeup workshop, what would be the most important/helpful topic for you?
Preparing the skin for long-lasting makeup.
2) Would you want the workshop to be hands-on or demonstration-based?
A short demonstration would suffice but I'm a kinesthetic learner and have better success if I do it myself.
3) Based on #1 above, would you expect supplies to be covered or would you be fine bringing what you have?
I would expect some supplies to be covered especially those that might not be so obvious. I would prefer to bring my own makeup and be shown how to work with what I currently own. I like the idea behind Kevyn Aucoin's face forward in that he doesn't tell you which brands to use but gives a list of colors, types of brushes, etc... for you to get in whatever budget you can afford.

Re: Makeup Workshop Quick Poll
1.) how to find the right shade of foundation for ur skin tone (sounds simple enough but i swear i can never buy something without going too light or too dark! :( ). also how to look like u have flawless looking skin
oh and what each individual's best features are and how to accentuate them
2.) a short demonstration would do fine for me as well. i'm trying to think of time and a hands on would seem to take up too much time
3.) i would expect supplies to be covered but i would also like to bring my own to kind of see if i'm doing it right, using the right things, etc.
