LRose glitter velvet?
My imagination is not very vivid, and I am wondering what a beledi dress in the LRose glitter velvets would look like. I love the idea, but I am a bit worried that it may look garish on a not exactly perfect body. Any experiences and advice?

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
Actually I think the texture combination of velvet with some sparkles might help to camoflage a less than perfect body. It's certainly more forgiving than plain lycra.

Oh yeah, I sure would not consider lycra! Oy vey! I am thinking luxury velvet vs. sparkly. Me in a bright colored lycra dress, that would be quite something. The thought makes me giggle.

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
I would have thought that the sparkles would reflect light, thereby possibly drawing more attention to any wobbly bits that might protrude. (I've been warned to stay away from shiny belly covers 'cause they might only emphasize my less-than-flat tummy, for example.)
If you don't have this figure problem or if that is not a problem due to the cut of the dress or wearing a belt, then the fun factor added by the sparkly-ness sounds great.

I say if you like the sparkly velvet, go for it. Add a really sparkly belt, maybe with paillettes, and you've got a winning combo.

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
Here is the black/silver glitter on a very imperfect body. In person the effect is more of a liquid sheen on the velvet, a softer effect than some glitter fabrics. I think it's flattering, and I've gotten good reactions from others.

Zana, you look HOT in that dress! Wow.
I guess it all points towards the glitter velvet, then.

OMG, Zana, these pictures are gorgeous, makes me want to place an LRose order right now for some sparkly velvet! Wish I had your beautifully proportioned hourglass figure to go with it, though!

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
I'll just chime in and say that I agree with all these ladies- Zana, that looks amazing on you!
The troupe I'm in have trumpet skirts and tops (not dresses) in the L Rose turquoise glitter fabric, and I also find that the glitter doesn't accentuate the flaws- the fabric is flattering!
:-)

I have a few glitter pieces from L. Rose and my "problem area" is my hips and thighs. But I have found that the glitter actually helps flatter those areas because it deflects the viewer to see the glitter more than anything else.

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
I emailed LRose for color samples - question is, burgundy or blue (both "my" color). Decisions, decisions ... ;-)

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
Just a thought that came to mind reading this thread is that I have heard that one of the reasons people love mineral makeup is that it sparkles and/or reflects light and so wrinkles and imperfections don't show as well. I'm thinking that glitter on a dress may work in that same manner?
02-25-2009 12:40 PM #17Re: LRose glitter velvet?
Exactly. When I used to sell cosmetics, one of the tricks of the trade was to put glitter cream below your eyes. This way, the light draws your attention up to the eyes and away from any wrinkles under the eyes. The same goes for any area you don't want people to focus on. They see light and glitter and draws the focus away from the areas you don't want noticed.

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
I just want a beledi dress, and but I didn't care for anything I found online, so the plan is dress + to-be-purchased hip gear. I have nothing comparable in either color, and don't need to coordinate with anybody. No constraints beyond making a choice that makes me feel fabulous ;-) I know that blue and burgundy are good with my coloring (blue eyes, light skin, henna).

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
Wow that dress looks hawt! I think I need to get me one of them!
I looooove glitter velvet. I find it very forgiving of the bulges, as the pile of the velvet sort of evens them out a bit. The glitter just adds glitz!

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
If I recall correctly, the glitter in the glitter velvet is relatively subtle and evenly dispersed. I think it would make a lovely beledi dress with a jazzed up hip wrap!

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
Based on my own experience, my only caution would be: don't expect the glitter material to do all the sparkly work for you. You'll still need to dress it up with a *great* hip wrap and/or bra, or other embellishments. I have a royal blue twilight (glitter) velvet LRose dress and because I neglected to "dress it up," it's currently the most boring costume I own!

Hi Steffi! *waves and jumps up and down*
I love the brown glitter velvet. Just had a pair of jazz pants made for teaching and they're my current fave. But now that I've seen how stunning Zana looks in a glittery beledi dress, I might have to place another order!

Re: LRose glitter velvet?
Awwww...you guyyyyyys...
This is the first time the word "hottie" has EVER been used in a sentence that had any connection whatsoever to me -- of that I am sure! All credit should go to the excellent taste of my Swap Meet stylists, Dunyah and Rosette. And please note: only Kiyaana has seen these photos with the original uncaffeinated, un-made-up bedhead attached. Blackmail material all the way!
Thanks for the completely unexpected boost. I love you guys.
I'm tickled that Lora (L. Rose Designs) is getting a boost out of it as well. She runs a great business, and I'm glad so many of us support it. The only thing is, now I want another dress and y'all probably have her booked up for weeks!
Steffi, you need two dresses: burgundy and blue. (So do I, come to think of it!) Both colors would be gorgeous on you and the velvet will make you feel like a princess. Trumpet skirts just rock.
Nasila, whatever happened to the Traveling Chocolate Velvet Dress -- from Lora to Liz to me to Lauren to you? It was a gorgeous color and I had hoped to see it on you one day...g.:
xoxo, everybody
