If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
I love What Not to Wear. I like how they show you what does / does not work.
What would they find in your BD wardrobe that would be tossed? What would they make you try on that would take you out of your comfort zone?
For me: probably the shiny, shiny gold lycra leotard. It's still pretty, but alas, I weighed 85lbs when I bought it. Two kids and 25y later....
Also, the first skirt I embellished. Too short, I look stumpy. And the bra that I made that ended up too tight - MONOBOOB!
Things that I'd have difficulty trying...Any shoes with heels that draw attention to the feet. I HATE seeing dancers' feet. And I don't like mine showing so that would be hard.
Actually, I don't have trouble trying on anything that is pointed out to me. My problem is that I have a mental blindness for certain colors, shapes, and designs. It's like I edit the vision so I don't even spot things on a rack.

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
i'd be curious to see what they'd say about mine........
i'm terrified they'd say i should STICK to mermaid skirts and i'm trying to get rid of them........
they MAY say something about straight skirts (in my own eye, the jury is still out) and my penchant for old school fringe monsters...........

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
Ruta, are you in my closet?! They would definitely call me out for my old school walls o' fringe bedlehs. But I don't care, they are AWESOME!!!! Now someone give me a big ole crown and some fringe gauntlets and let's dance like it's 1982 (or earlier). Throw in some shoulder epaulets and you have my idea of heaven.
Also, as an aside, I love how people always argue with the hairstylist on WNTW - Nick always makes people look amazing, but they are like, "Noooo, I love my greasy, straggly, damaged hair that is 3 colors, don't touch it." B*tch, please - let him work his magic!

I love the fringe on the old style monsters too! IN fact, I have many meters of unused fringe b/c I just went insane for a few months.
I agree totally about Nick and the hair. He always is dead on, and it never ceases to astound me that when people have this totally free opportunity to try an expert's image of them, that they hesitate.

I have a feeling they'd have us all ditch the Melodia pants. I would cry!
I love that show but if I ever ended up on in IRL I'd hide the Melos from them. I don't use them as streetwear anyway!

That show would have a field day in my closet. I have some really odd stuff (mostly Burning Man costumes).

This hideous shirt I bought at Venice Beach last year that's way too small for me (the long sleeves don't even go all the way down to my wrists).
A pair a pants 2 sizes too big.
All my t-shirts.

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
I know for regular clothes, they'd make me toss the extra large man's sweatsuit I commandeered (sp?) from my husband. But the only 2 things I think they'd not get me into is a collared shirt and pointy shoes.
BD-wise - they'd also probably make me toss my wigs.
I wonder what they'd do with my hair? It's v. curly & really, really short.

If you're talking Trinny and Susannah, they'd have trouble faulting the cuts but they'd try to force me throw out everything because it's black.
Also, they would make me buy magic knickers and more upholstered bras.

I love Trinny and Susannah, but I thought this was about the show hosted by Stacey and Clinton - Why do they try to make everyone wear those ballet-type flats with the bow in front, and what do they have against stilettos? I wouldn't have a shoe left in my closet.

Bella, I'd love to see your hair--I bet it's darling! Zumarrad, what are magic knickers? Are they the U.K. version of Spanx?
Oh yeah, not to totally go off on a tangent---they'd probably make me toss my harem pants. Those babies do my figure no favors but they keep me from flashing everyone during a spin!

Sorry, I've never seen the American version.
Trinny and Susannah, who started the whole What Not To Wear thing (I have their first book, even!) LOVE stilettos. You just have to wear them with long trousers.
I think so. You can buy them in my local swanky shop now. They're bloody expensive.Zumarrad, what are magic knickers? Are they the U.K. version of Spanx?

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
I think they would agree with me that my red gauntlets are unflattering: they make my broad shoulders look even wider. I can't bring myself to get rid of them, though, as they complement my matching trumpet skirt too nicely.
They would probably also call into question whether halter straps are the best look for me, again because of the aforementioned broad shoulders.
And I have to respectfully disagree with regard to Nick Arrojo -- I cringe when the show reaches his segment. I may be biased, however, as I'm a curly girl and his curly cuts are particularly atrocious.

Oops, you said BD wardrobe. I don't have a big enough collection yet, so I'm not sure.

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
My pink bridal satin 3 panel skirt.
Probably my two Turkish Fringe Monsters
Any of my bedlahs which currently don't fit me (But I have lost 15#, so that list is changing. Only another 20 to go!)
And the head bands. . .
But my tiara stays!

I love heavy fringe, who cares if it's "old school"? I get tons of compliments on my one costume that's so heavy with fringe it nearly pulls me over.
On a regular day, I am stacy & clintons worst what not to wear walking nightmare.

Hmmm, let's see...some very fugly hot pink fingerless fishnet gloves a dear friend gave me. She bought them to match my black full circle tribal skirt with hot pink edging. I also have a pair of lovely purple and gold lycra fake melodias that they'd probably want to toss. I don't have much of a wardrobe to speak of though (only one year in) and all my dosh seems to go toward workshops.

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
I just had a wardrobe cleansing(both BD items and ordinary clothes) from *everything* unflattering or uncomfortable,
so now Trinny and Susannah are welcome over to have a cuppa and give me more tips:)

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
they would certainly want me to toss a weird corset i got for 2€ at a flea-market...there is absolutely NOTHING bellydance about it...it covers most of the belly and it has odd white pearl-spirals. on the halter i had the "brilliant" idea to sew on long strips of blue shiny satin.
a white gypsy skirt...more of casual-wear, less bellydance
a flamenco top ive had for too long, and now its starting to get VERY tight
...i might add more later

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
I have no idea what this show is (haven't owned a TV in about ten years) but since I feel the only purpose of clothing is to not offend others with nudity, I'd say pretty much everything I own would get tossed by anybody with an eye for fashion. My dance costumes are nice enough, though, and I do miss the black leather-n-boots ensemble that I wore for most of my growing up years. And I've always felt that summer clothes, shorts, tanks, sundresses were the most flattering thing I've ever worn, but then I feel like I was made to live in the tropics.

Re: If "What not to Wear" looked in your closet
The little I have seen of decorating and clothing makeover shows, I get the idea that the advice tends to go towards relatively mainstream, somewhat sleek, following fashion, kinda boring, and certainly not eclectic.
Given that my taste is very eclectic, completely ignorant of all fashion, I venture the guess that pretty much all of my everyday wardrobe would be thrown out as completely offensive (if the hosts would not faint from shock seeing overalls next to Turkoman coats). That said, I get compliments on my clothes relatively often, including by random strangers.
When it comes to my dance wardrobe, I guess all my beloved pantaloons can be labeled as offensive, just like my hair flowers. (I happen like both.) Add my bindis and v-fringe, and big poofy skirts - I'm quite certain that more than half of my things would be gone as outdated and not sleek enough.
