how do you make these sleeves??

here is a link to the sleeves i'm talking about. the nude mesh ones with applique/embroidery on it.
    http://www.bhuz.com/forum/bellydance...nly-410-a.html

do u just buy the mesh and sew on the appliques and stones?? how would you keep it from tearing once you cut it up and would just sewing on the appliques mess with the stretch of the mesh? i guess you could glue them on but i would feel more comfortable sewing them than gluing (would it get the mesh dirty?, how long would it last?, etc.)

i love the ones cristtiano has (can't find a pic now) but they're like embroidered mesh leggings

Hmm. The blue one looks like a body stocking with appliques maybe adhered using fabric glue? Dunno..that'd by my first guess without actually having it on my hands to pick apart..I mean, examine ..l;,

I was thinking fabric glue since that bends & gives a little bit, but another possibility is they're tacked on w/thread individually.

These are probably stitched on the same way that beading is done on dresses and two piece sets.

I have a navy blue pharonix elegance entwined. Ill have a look at the sleeves on that if you like, but I believe it is sewn on.

I've got some of the mesh sleeves. I had Pharonics make me a set to go with an Egyptian Empress costume I had made.

They used sequins only on the part that goes down the arm. They are stiched on. If I had to guess, I'm thinking they did that before they sewed the seam under the arm. The cuffs at top and bottom are done in beads.

The sequin part doesn't seem to be affecting the stretch of the mesh much.

I have a pair of the Pharaonics mesh sleeves, and the sequins are sewn directly onto the mesh. Seems like appliques might work though, especially if they are straight down the arm in more or less of a line, and applied before pinning and sewing the seam. Please let us know how yours turn out, I love those sleeves!

Mesh is easy to work with. It doesn't unravel when you cut it. When you sew seams use tiny zig zag or overlock stitch or serge to allow some stretch so that the seam doesn't pull out when the fabric stretches. I also always sew stay stitches or use clear stay tape on any edges that have cuts on the bias (like shoulder) to keep the fabric from stetching out of shape with handling while sewing. It is easy to sew beads or sequins to mesh or net.

    Hi Zana,

the mesh is called power net. It comes in many colors and does not tear when cutted. Really awesome material for belly dancers.

When I look at my costumes from Egypt decoration is hand stitched to the power net parts.

    Good luck !

do i just buy the power net online and then cut it up to fit? would it be more effective if i were to buy a body stocking first so that it would be easier to get the sleeves and leggins and then just decorate?
