offshoot- how do you deal with back bra-bulge, side boob bulge etc...

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue ( or at least i hope) ...Any tricks for dealing with pesky bulge or the side-boob, or back behind the bra? this was inspired by andalee's dillema with a badly fitting bra.

I'm wondering if maybe my bra straps are too small or too tight? if it's too tight, how do you find that balance between keeping the girls in the bra without getting that unsightly underarm/side-boob bulge. what are the possible causes? I have had these issues with bella's ive purchased, so it wasn't a badly made bra....anyway..enough rambling...and ideas ladies?

If my bra is tight enough, I've got bulges. Well, wider straps definitely help, but still....

The very best solution for me, seriously, is to wear something over the bra. My three favorite options so far: L. Rose U-tops, underbust vest (I have one that came with a Turkish set from Kajal that I wear with a lot of different skirts, two I made), and some tie tops (one from Kajal, some from Nourhan Sharif) that I tie underbust.

ita that wider bra straps will help. you know how a skinny strap on anything will create bulge.

some dancers like to add a little chiffon around the top edges of the bra - all around the back, sides and cups, to hide the bulge. then add a little of the matching chiffon to the skirt and/or belt to make it match. a pretty fix

And make sure that the bra is big enough.

Sugarpetals powernet full body stocking. The one that is like a leotard cut under the cut--with or without arms. Smooths out everything and since it goes under your bra, the underarm ooze is held in place as well. For everyday wear I have a Spanx cami that works.

I am a BIG fan of wrap tops, too! I have been able to harass Jes into dyeing a few sets of matching skirt/top sets, and these are wonderful and offer modesty plus coverage of imperfections, plus, the flowy sleeves are flattering.

The disadvantage of this solution is that it does not work with all costumes/dance styles. It matches very nicely with bra/belt sets and a Turkish/AmCab dance style, but probably would be odd with a sleek lycra costume and a very modern Egyptian dance style. But then - somebody who has problems with bra bulge most likely will not be drawn towards a lycra skirt anyways ;-)

This is a good point. Besides narrow straps, cups that aren't deep enough are probably the biggest culprit. If the cups fit properly, the straps shouldn't need to be so friggin' tight, and the entire breast, including the underarm boobfat, can go inside the cup instead of squirting out the sides.

A lot of that is also because your bra doesn't fit you right. If you have side boob like me then you need wide sides on your bra connected in just the right way to hold it all in. For some reason there are very few bras like that out there.

I agree...there are VERY few bras with the wide sides. When I first started dancing 4 years ago I was very overweight and my bra size was around 42 C. As long as the bra was big enough, I had no problems.

What I run into now... is after losing quite a few sizes (4, almost 5) I am now a 38 DD. If I do not have wide sides on the bra I have HORRENDOUS boob bulge. It's very embarrassing and makes me feel bad --- for as far as I've come... it looks terrible still! So, wide sides... definitely a plus in fighting overage!

In my experiments so far, I've found that what helps most when making a bra is to augment the bra with a panel that follows the actual bra strap pattern by 1 inch. I arrived at that measurement by putting an old tank top on top of the bra strap and pinning them together, then using that as a pattern to cut the fabric used to fashion the supplementing panel. The fabric itself needs to be reinforced with heavy weight interfacing otherwise there's still ooze, only fabric covered *g* I've tried the two strap get up (ie one at the top of the cup and one at the bottom joining into the chest strap, but the boob-ooze tended to try and escape in the space between those straps. (It made me look like a roastbeef on sale at Loblaws LOL)
