I make alot of costumes and I almost always put a wire in the top edge of the cups when I build the bras. It usually helps with gapping and stability. For a bra that's already made, just open the top edge of the lining and whip stich the wire into the inside top edge of the cup and re-stitch the lining.

You're success may depend on how stiff the cup is. I tried putting a wire in a Johara bra once that was too big for me, but the cup was so stiff, the wire didn't make any difference on the gapping issue. That may have been the problem with your Eman.

What type of wire do you recommend for this? Would it work for gaping on a belt?

The stuff I use I got at my local JoAnn Fabrics store in the craft department. I can't remember what guage it was. I can look when I get home and let you know.

I use the same wire on the top of belts and it does help to mold the belt to your shape a little better. If you have a large gap on your belt, you're probably better off installing some elastic inside your belt with a thread casing. It's the same method that's used for those stretchy beaded egyptian skirts.

I used florists wire from a craft store to wire a bra with good results - it helped with the gaping. I've never tried it on a belt.

I tried to the check the gauge I used, but unfortunately I cut the label off the package. It's heavier than the 20 gauge and exactly 1 millimeter thick, if that helps.

So, I just checked the label on the wire I use and it says 22 Guage. I'm pretty sure I bought it in the floral section of the craft store.

I doubt more wire would help. Often times moving the shoulder straps will help. Maybe if you post a photo of the problem (if you're comfortable with that) the many good seamstresses here on Bhuz can help.
