Thread: do you think there's anything wrong with making homemade cookies to eat from the bowl

from scratch..you know the 'old fashioned' way with nestle chips.

Why would you do such a thing? WHy would you deprive yourself of that exact half a batch of warm just-out-of-the-oven cookies!?

However, I keep "tasting" the mix when I make truffles... But is ok, I always make a double load anyways.

Nope, and there's nothing wrong with eating the chocolate chips, pre-dough, straight out of the bag either, and brownie batter right off the spoon is prerfectly yummy too.

Unless you are preggers or immune compromised, eating a raw egg is not *that* huge of a risk. Personally for that I'd rather have an egg from a small farm rather than a huge egg factory though. You can also purchase pasteurized raw eggs.

ah, thats the way i cook, bake.food allergies....but how else do you make cookies? everything in this home is from scratch !
i use ww flour, dark choco chips, organic oatmeal.
you mean instead of buying store cookies? i am lost!

Apart from agreeing with Sedonia that raw egg is not necessarily evil (Tiramisu!!!), I think there is a lot wrong with eating cookies directly from the bowl.

A good cookie (one that has butter and eggs and chocolate) deserves to be enjoyed during that divine moment when it is out of the oven for just long enough - it starts holding together, but it is still soft and a wee bit doughie, and you are just about to burn your mouth, but not quite anymore. Everything else is cookie abuse and should be reported to the proper authorities for cookie rescue ;-)

Since you subsitute the eggs then there is no problem at all then. Only when you are eating the batter that has raw eggs in it is when you need to worry about eating because there is always the chance of getting salmonella.

I'ts even good when you freeze the batch so you can have cookie dough any time you want

I think it is one of life's greatest pleasures, and you should never, ever deny yourself that!

Plus, I've probably eaten dozens of raw eggs in the form of baked-goods batter in my lifetime. No salmonella here!

Cookie dough, brownie batter, cake batter, pancake batter, banana nut bread batter, pie dough... it's all good in my book...l;, In my kitchen, if the cookie recipe claims a yield of 4 dozen, don't count on getting more than 3. ..l;,

scratch = buying the chocolate chip morsels and mixing up the brown sugar, white sugar, flour, vanilla, softened butter..etc in a bow (when you are ready to cook it you can add the egg and baking soda)

When I was pregnant, I made cookie dough up with pasturized eggs, just so I could eat it out of the bowl.

The baking soda will cause your stomach to explode.

Tollhouse, Pillsbury, and other companies sell pre-made dough in the refrigerator section of the grocery store. It's usually near the yogurt, pudding, butter, et cetera. (My grandmother would hit me with a wooden spoon if I baked cookies this way, lol.)

I had a roommate in college that bought a bucket of cookie dough and slowly demolished it. We were all very impressed. ..l;,

I actually prefer the cookie dough to the cookies :-p ... though I rarely make them from scratch just because it makes so much and it's just me and my hubby - I do buy those bowls of premade dough to have on hand, though and honestly, only like 6 cookies ever actually get made (I'll cook like 2 or 3 at a time) - the rest gets eaten as dough

Absolutely not! There is nothing wrong with that! After all, one needs to make sure that, (y)ummm...the ingredients are just right (you know, just the right amount of chips and sugar and chips...did I already say that?) and that the baked product will taste good...g.:

COSTCO people!! they sell it by the tub (but i guarantee it aint as good as the home mixed variety which REALLY doesnt take that long to do)

...pudding, pie filling...and been eatting it raw since a child before it became a bad thing!!
