    "Indoor voice" zills?

    Hi Everyone!

I have a pair of Saroyan Arabesque II zills and while I love them, they are loud, loud, LOUD! Can anyone recommend a type of indoor zills (quieter, gentler tone), for say, a small restaurant type venue? I do like the quality of my current ones, but I think they are better suited to the wide open outdoors.

    Thanks!!!

You can put baby socks on them to muffle the sound.

if you use baby socks, you don't actually hear the sound anymore. just a kinda soft "pof".
i think on the Saroyan website, they specify if the zills are "loud". but i wouldn't be able to help you much.
though, i have the smaller sized "Arabic" (or Arabian or something like that) ones, i don't think they're too loud for indoors but then i don't have much to compare them with...

I prefer to use the King Tut's with my ring finger pressed on the top to muffle the sound. Still gives a pretty ring but it's soft.

For practice, yes. But in a restaurant?

Saroyan sells Mini-Zills and Tinker-Zills, which are meant for children. They are quite small and not as loud, from what I have heard.

Are they meant for children? I love them for playing along with lighter toned music in small quarters. I've heard they're also good for dancers with small hands.

For a mid-tone for restaurants, the only thing I have is Nefertiti or Grecian, I like them both -- the Grecian have a deeper tone, whcih I love, but I sometimes have trouble keeping the tone 'clean' when I play them fast.

Lots of people seem to ADORE the Turkish Delights, are they a good mid-tone for restaurants?

The description on the Saroyan site says "These cymbals are specially designed for small hands as well as for children." So it sounds like they're for either or both!

I have Saroyan Arabesques and I think they would be super for your purposes. They're quite mellow.

Wow! Thanks for all of the leads...i have a set of tinker-zills but they are way too small sounding in the restaurant. Maybe the grecians or the arabesques...i need a very mellow tone i think....not the ring that keeps on ringing!

You know, i really love bhuz. i learn so much here! Thank you ladies!!!

For very very small Tokyo restaurants I use the tinkerzills/minizills, for slightly larger I use the Nefertitis (then onward to the Greecians and Arabesques)

I love tinkerzills. First, finally a pair of zills I could play (just manipulating regular sized zills was a challenge for me - I have tiny hands). Secondly, I like the fact that they aren't too loud - my zilling isn't amazing - this way people SEE my zills, and THINK I'm playing them, but can't HEAR my mistakes. :-)

I use Grecians for small spaces - and for class.

I bought some of these for my daughter; they have sweet little butterflies stamped into them. But, as Lauren mentioned, they really are great for very small areas, such as a home or small restaurant.

I purchased a second pair of zills, with a mellower tone to them, for private home/small venue gigs, but I think they're still too loud. I think I'll "borrow" the kid's Tinker-Zills.

Thanks!!! Unfortunately, that's how i fell in love with the arabesque 2's!!! I loved the tone and then turned the volume down on my computer...which kind of defeated the purpose! ha ha ha!
