Help my Halter Please!
I'm sewing myself a halter top. It has a band around the ribcage and then triangles that go up and connect behind my neck. Problem is the triangles are pulling the band out of shape so it isn't creating as smooth a line.
I'll see if I can post some photos later. I'm wondering if any of you have dealt with this same problem and can tell me how to fix it?

Re: Help my Halter Please!
Perhaps you need more stability for the band? Interfacing?

Also, even though they are triangles, you may still need darts.

Yup, I was going to suggest stabilizing the band so that it's doesn't lose shape too. Also, if the triangles have small gathers where they attach to the band it will help with fit over the curvy parts.
Another problem you may find after the fact - most of mine "shift" during a performance because the band slides on your skin. Consider lining the band with something that "grips". I tacked the top rubberry band of a stay-up stocking to the inside and it works great, but dots of puffy paint will work too.

I've got a halter top pattern I made that might work for you. It's really easy to make. The "triangles" aren't quite "triangles"- on mine it's actually two pieces that sew together to create the triangle look but with curve for "boobage". The bottom band I create sort of based on how you can use double fold bias tape for waist band of skirts.

Samira - that's how I do the band too.
Would love a copy of your halter pattern tho... sounds like a great modification!

Re: Help my Halter Please!
I actually did put 3 layers of a decent weight interfacing in the band when I built it and I put small gathers in the bottom of the halter. I think where I'm running into trouble is that I sewed bra cups in as well to give is some extra shape and now that I think of it, I probably just sewed them on in such a way that the attachment to the cups themselves is what's pulling the band out of shape...
I think I can fix that.
Thanks for offering the pattern Samira. I'll let you know if I need it.
