Question bella - removing top skirt elastic?

I'm wondering what will happen if you remove this wide piece of elastic which Bella stitches criss-cross on the inside of the skirt's top?
I read many times on bhuz that "it may give you a little extra room, but not sure". So have anyone really tried to do it? does it work?

    thank you...

I would think that if you removed the elastic completely that you would lose a lot of support. It would be like the costumes that come without elastic and slide right down due to the weight of the beads. I would be tempted to keep it in, but loosen the stretch as much as possible.

I did it on one of my Bella costumes.
I was way too tight , major muffin top , so I had to try.

I have to specify this Bella skirt is made of lycra. even it has tons of decorations at the top it still stays put. But if you have velvet skirt it might be different.

I started by removing only part of it , then removed the whole elastic.
You could still put part of the elastic back if you find the skirt slides down while you shimmy. the criss-cross stitch is easy to do.

I've done it. The elastic just helps to snug the costume in--it doesn't hold the whole skirt (or at least it shouldn't). I pulled the elastic a little tighter on one, then opened it back up after gaining some weight. Both times it worked like a charm w/o changing or harming the skirt.

Keep in mind it's not going to change 33" upper hip to a 37" inch one, but it will help tighten or loosen a costume that just needs a little adjustment.
