    hiding your 3/4 wig?

How do you do it if you don't wear a headband? My hair is fine and without a headband I am afraid my "headrug" will be obvious. I'm just waiting on my hair to grow back out!!

I always wore a headband when I wore a 3/4 wig. I think the wig would be very obvious otherwise, and plus the headband is an extra layer of security holding it in place.

It is possible... depending on your hairstyle and the 3/4 wig itself. I've asked this question to one of my teachers who wears such wigs frequently.

    1. Your hairstyle
Part of your hair can be styled over the 3/4 wig. It helps if you have bangs or layered hair.

    2. The 3/4 wig itself
This is hard to describe, but I'll try:
Examine the hairline of the 3/4 wig. Some are the kind where the hair on the front hairline is all going in one direction toward the back. My teacher showed me a couple of 3/4 wigs where some hair on the front hairline is going somewhat forward, almost like how bangs would look on a full wig. That hairline can be teased so that it better blends with one's own hair.

I have a 3/4 wig with the former description, and it is virtually impossible to tease the hair as it's all made to go one way.

You could also wear the 3/4 wig a bit further back on your head so that more of your natural hair covers it.

my hair is thin and fine with an odd wave to it, so there is NO WAY I could blend any of it into a 3/4 cap. total dorkdom.

if you don't want to wear your standard costume headband turban thingie, you can wear a thin rhinestone headband. I'm wearing one on my splash page: Elisa Gamal - Middle Eastern Dance Seattle

I have a couple blingy ones. the one in that pic, I glued a strand of good quality rhinestone chain onto a cheap plastic drugstore headband that fits snugly to my head without giving me a headache. I have some that are designed for bridal. I also have an inexpensive dark colored one where the stones (plastic probably) aren't very sparkly. I use that one if I have to hang out before or after a gig and don't want to be too sparkly. I attach dark elastic to the headbands that goes under my hair in the back, to keep them secure on my head.

a thin headband will snug right up next to the 3/4 cap and hide the "seam."

but why not a wider headband? I have a whole wardrobe of L Rose turban wraps and wide headbands that I pinch and decorate with a rhinestone clip. very comfy and secure. with beaded lycra costume turbans, I sew a wig comb clip to the center to keep them secure.

Great idea! This is one reason why, actually. The lycra ones pop off of me, or fly off, and the plastic ones (I have a nice one that hides seems great) give me a terrible headache, or "behind the ear ache".

I love 3/4 wigs, and have a gorgeous one but that was my question. I actually (somehow) managed to get a shamadan over my 3/4 wig AND plastic headband a week or so ago... I have no idea how I managed that, but it worked great!

I put mine farther back on my head after parting hair ear-to-ear and pulling the front hair forward. Then I backcomb the front part of my own hair and lift the front part of the hairpiece hair and intregrate them. I use a hairspray for wigs (won't hurt your own hair) to keep it all in place. Lots of pins, and a costume hairband of some sort. If your hairpiece has the open weave cap, you can also pull some of your own hair through the cap to help secure it to your head and make it look more natural.

Great tips & perfect timing! I've never worn a 3/4 but am awaiting delivery of one I purchased on the Swap Meet. Will definitely be bookmarking this thread for reference when my new do arrives.

omg. the wig comb clips in the headbands will change your LIFE. I'm serious. the cap will anchor the headband in the back, and with the clip on top, your headband will. not. move. put a clip on the bottom behind each ear and you can do head zars. you also won't have to stretch the headband snug to keep it on, which is awesome because then all the pretty beading will show better.

I haaaate plastic headband headache. with my bridal headband, the headband is built out of two wires that are stuck together at the ends. I took a length of round elastic and tied a knot one side, then slipped the knot between the wires and snugged it down to the bottom. then I measured and tied another knot on the other side. so, I put the headband on, bring the elastic under my hair, and then slip the knot into the band on the other side. keeps it totally secure. and with the metal wires, I can mold them so they don't dig into my scalp.
