What Color Panne Velvet?
Hi ladies, so I've decided I would like to do a gold beaded set and curious, what color stretch panne do you think I should use? Would yellow be too much? Or is that just the-need-to-color-coordinate tendency coming out?
I found some ivory but it being my first beaded project, do I need something that would blend better? What do ya'll think?

I vote NO to ivory! It is see-through. I guess if you are making a bra and belt with it, it would be ok, but you'd have to be really careful to only use white notions.
I think yellow would be nice. I bought a brown/beige color that is nice too.

I vote no to the ivory too. One of my troupe mates has a gold panne skirt she made. It's not yellow, much deeper and richer into the gold tones. I have seen the color a couple times at Joanns.

Re: What Color Panne Velvet?
What is the velvet for? Is it for the bra and belt set, a skirt to go with the gold set, or all of the above?
The color choice will really depend on the overall look you're going for. If you're making a gold set/costume and you want gold to be then dominant/only color, than maybe look for gold, honey or wheat-colored velvet, close the color of beads you're planning to use. Even some browns or mocha-colored velvet could really work. Look at the congac and straw colors here:

But if you want the gold to be an accent color, then the sky is pretty much your limit. Olive, browns, purples, reds, blues, etc. Gold functions as a neutral in belly dance, it will go with just about anything. Does that help?

Seconding what mathkitty said...
I love rich jewel tones with gold, unless you want an all gold tone costume.

You've not posted any pictures of yourself to see what might suit you personally!
In horribly oversimplified terms:
Brunette/olive-skinned/dark-skinned? I'd suggest strong jewel colours- scarlet, royal blue, teal, forest green, chocolate, fuchsia
Blonde/pale-skinned? Still with jewel colours, but not so dark, so as not to overwhelm you- turquoise, apple green, coral, violet, sky-blue, bubble-gum pink, minty green
