Sewing a headband...Tips??
hello!
i bought a GORGEOUS black velvet student costume and i want to make a headband to match...i would like it to be "bulkier" than the L. Rose simple one, but a bit flatter and more comfy to wear than the turban style one!
here are the pictures on the L. Rose site: L. Rose Designs - Online Catalog
do you have any instructions/online patterns/tips to share on how to make one (for sewing dummies?)
thanks and xxxxxxx

Re: Sewing a headband...Tips??
Make it very snug - when you sweat as you dance it will slip down and it's an annoying prop to have to keep adjusting (for the dancer and the audience!).
Use elastic for the back bit (nape of the neck) either in a casing or alone to help create a snug fit that is easy to take on an off.
My favourite is the pinched headband. It's the kind where you gather a wide band in the middle and decorate with a jewel or whatever matches the decorations on your costume, something big as a centre piece. That gathered jewel middle part sits centred on your forehead.
I love headbands, especially since they hiding emerging forehead wrinkles (as does dangling beaded fringe that hangs from them). They also add polish and professionalism to your overall look. Armbands, gaunlets and other arm coverings do the same thing. I consider these essential for serious pro's.
Good luck!

i might aswell add, ive got a straight fringe/bangs, so it should be something that can go a bit higher than forehead level :)
