Back pain question
Hi y'all.
Since I started belly dancing, I don't experience much back pain other than the occasional PMS related kind. However, last night after class, I started getting intense lower back pain that is radiating down into hips and upper thighs. I didn't do anything in class (I was teaching) and I warmed up and cooled down like I always do.
What is up with this. It sucks. I talked to someone at work and she asked if I was ovulating. Well, I stopped taking the pill a couple of weeks ago, so I really could be. She said pain like that can happen. Weird. Heard of it?
What do you think?

Re: Back pain question
I have horrible back pain when I ovulate - it can and does travel down into my legs, and sometimes I have rectal pain (sorry for the TMI) so bad it's hard to sit down. I take boatloads of ibuprophin and lots of warm baths, and it usually passes in a couple of days.

Re: Back pain question
Yes you can have lower back pain when you ovulate. My OB ust told me about this especially if your uterus is farther back, which mine is.
THe other thing you might want to just check is your posture during dance. Incorect posture can really make things hurt in this dance, especially the lower (lumbar) back. I've had to correct mine not knowing that it was off. It still is off since its a long process of re-tweaking muscles ect.
Refer to Hadia's DVDs they are great for that. Plus its nice to just check yourself once a week or so!

Re: Back pain question
If the back of your leg is "tingling", then it could be sciatica. That's when the sciatic nerve gets pinched. The sciatic nerve starts in the lower back and actually crosses over to the opposite leg. (for example, I have problems with my left hip alignment but it effects my right leg). This would be something to see your doctor or chiropractor about.

When I was in college, I went to the student health center for my annual exam and the nurse practitioner who was trying to do a pap smear told me she could not find my cervix. .w.: I told her it was in there last time someone checked ..l;,, and she finally found it, but told me that my uterus is located very far back and tipped way back too boot.

Re: Back pain question
Be careful with pain like that! I noticed something strange in my lower back a few months ago and then walking down the street I felt a pop and down I went - sprained back for three weeks and I can still feel it in there lurking around.
The strange thing is, like you...I hadn't done anything weird to it and am in pretty good physical condition. I'm not sure what can be done to prevent that from happening, though. I suffer from other back and neck pain from overdoing it in my youth, but this was the first time it happened to the lower back.
One question is - do you sit weirdly at the computer? That might be involved as well.

Re: Back pain question
i have a friend who suffered from really really really bad back pain for a few months. the worst time was when he couldn't really walk and had to be half lying down. he went to many doctors and back doctor and chinese medicine doctor. at the end i don't know who found out but the problem was he had a bad tooth done and the dentist did something wrong and hurt a nerve or something and because of the tooth he got that terrible back pain.
