Lightbulb "What are you working on?" April, 2009

Well, someone has to start the new thread! I'll post my own a bit later, but I'm really curious as to who's doing what!

I've just started a new costume with a fabulous Hematite colored Panne velvet. I am using shades of fushia and Amethyst as an accent color. I will post pics as the costume progresses.

I have chain that I'm putting in swags on the bottom of my belt. My, my arranging that stuff is a PIB! Doesn't help that I've lost my close-up glasses twice (still haven't found the nicer pair), LOL.

I'm putting copper chain on a bronze/copper belt. I have the front arranged on a pc of cardboard with pins. Am sewing the stuff on next and hoping the back goes more easily and maybe faster. Hmm. Wonder how many pounds this thing will weigh, anyway???? Hmmmm.

Am taking pics which I'll post later.

i am making a brown and pink number that is almost done for a bhuzzer and then I have this interesting victorian inspired commission to begin. I am still working on the troupe order for Wiggles, and I have a tribaret to work on. I will post pics soon.

I worked on the chain swags from about noon to about 6:30. The 2nd half does go a lot faster. And thank goodness for upholstery thread, it is the coolest ever: No snarling at all!

This turned out nice, I think. I love the tassels.

And holy crap, it's so heavy! I got curious and weighed it: a little over 1 1/2 pounds is all. It feels SO much heavier than that!

I have one teensy problem, I tried it on over my skirt (but not the harem pants), and it's too big. Sigh. So to make it snugger, I pushed it down lower than I'm really comfortable wearing it. Then I did some moves, and thank goodness it's heavy, coz gravity will help (will it?) BUT it did move around some.

    Any suggestions?

I'll wear it to class tomorrow night, so I may have different results then. *shrug*

    cute belt.

I just finished my bra base. I think it's the nicest one I've made. Now to cover it. Violet dupioni under eggplant/silver assuit.

Finishing a pro costume for sale, it's actually already taken in advance. Will post pics tomorrow probably when it's all done. But it turned out so cute I don't want to let it go now :D

    Good for you! Good luck!

It's scary and cool and very satisfying! I'm in the middle of my first as well! Take pics if you can!

I got lots of help when I asked questions (not necessarily in this thread, but in this costuming section.) Folks are really wonderful here with advice!

    My next project:

I have about 8 yards each of the floral and the red. (The green is a silk veil.) I have a couple ideas, both involve ruching. I am inspired by (but a more covered version) -

    (Dancing With the Stars)

I think looped/swag red fringe would be lovely with this. (Need to search for sources again.)

I also looooove this, but am not sure I have the skills to do that with the flowers
(Orit and Aziza in Orlando at Aziza's 2008 B-Day bash - let me know if I shouldn't post this for some reason)

Any other ideas are welcome! I've had this fabric for several months and need to get busy since it's so summery.

Oh Kiyaana, you *so* should make those poppies into appliques! A bit of felt/interfacing backing, a few sequins and beads to set them off. It would be amazing!

Ozma, tell her she has to!

This month: I'm ignoring dance stuff and concentrating on other projects.

    1) copy of a vintage dress for a friend's daughter's graduation
EXQUISITE Sarmi Boutique Two Toned Strapless Goddess Gown VINTAGEOUS VINTAGE CLOTHING

    2) confirmation dress for my 11 yr old in olive green satin with a brown lace overlay (see picture for inspiration)

    3) min of 3 monkeys for Esty - hopefully...

I'm recycling a silver bedlah I received from a Bhuzer (sorry I've forgot the name, it's was a while ago). I only paid for the shipping, it was worn out and she was about to throw it out.

    Before:

So I took of the dirty lining and the fringe on top (kept it for an other project )

I decorate it with 4 new sequin appliques I bought from Tatiana_MED, put big square rhinestones and a new lining, Voilŕ! Just like new

Next the bra... to be continued!

Qamar, it looks like brand new!! Bon travail!

Kiyaana, go for the flowers!! Cut them out separately, back on top of heavy duty Pellon and embellish with sequins or crystals!! It would look fab and you have the skizzles to pull it off, girl!

3 pairs devil horns and sushi pasties I finished last night:

Great revamp job, Kiyaana! Do you have a good source for the square rhinestones? I've been thinking of adding some of those to a bedlah I have.

Those sushi pasties are hilarious, Azhia. I'm afraid to ask what they were for!

Azhia, that's so funny you made horns. I've made about 30 pairs out of fimo and given them away. They're so fun!

If you're talking about my big rhinestones (Qamar) Aww! They are also part of recycled stuff, he, he! ..g.: I took them of a summer top that I wasn't waring anymore.

I mean...I looked at that fabric and though "Oh, she's making a costume for meeeeeeeeeee!" and while I know that not to be true...if you don't do something blinged and faboo with the poppies I am going to cry and curse you.

    ..l;,

To the original, 1961 Kyu Sakamoto version of "Sukiyaki." Everything else is cute. The sushi are the only camp part of the number. That and the fact that I pull out a bunch of crap from my huge kimono sleeves... (a hankerchief, a picture, a pile of letters, a cat...).

    Horns are for "Hell" number.

P.S. Coin costume will be done for later spring.
