Re: I'd Say Makeup Is Abooouuuut... 30% of It
My first reaction - how much photoshopping was done on the alleged before picture?

haha, my first reaction was not that kind. Modonna is a worn woman. I've seen plenty of candid pics to support my decision.

I love this site Glenn Feron - The Art of Retouching
Click on the thumbnail, then when the larger pic comes up, pleace your mouse over it to see the "before". It's illuminating.

Yeah, she's 50 years old and looks it. Gaining 10 lbs would help but I'm sure the gossip rags would then trash her for being fat.

I understand about retouching celebrity's pics or even advertisements. But I feel kinda bad for anybody hiring the aspiring model, they see that headshot then meet her...

It always amuses me when before/after photos of celebs are released with much scandalous fanfare: "Jessica Alba was airbrushed!!"
Well... DUH! Of course the photo's been retouched!!! Anyone that wants control of their image is going to make sure photos depicts them in the best light possible.

Well at least they're not all botoxed up a' la Mickey Rourke. (Though I 'm sure things have been tightened up here and there.)
Serioulsy, the Botox look to me is even scarier than wrinkles. The person looks just well, bloated.

Re: I'd Say Makeup Is Abooouuuut... 30% of It
Yeah, I am thinking the before picture was 'shopped as well.
I was bummed to see how airbrushed Valerie Bertinelli is on the stands right now. I saw the Oprah episode yesterday, and already she was CAKED WITH MAKE-UP. Like a ridiculous amount of make-up. But she looked good and her body looked her age, but super fit! She looked so great!
Then I saw the magazine cover today...and they brushed her up so much it didn't even look quite like her.
She has so much to be proud of and looks beautiful from her hard work to loose weight, and then they doctored her up into near plastic. *sigh* Of course I know this, and I avoid looking at magazine covers--they try to make women either look the worst they possibly can or as plastic as possible. Natural beauty? What's that...?

Re: I'd Say Makeup Is Abooouuuut... 30% of It
Wow, I've only ever seen the before shot of this set. I was quite impressed by Madonna releasing something in which she had some lines and pouches showing. Now I see the real picture!
As someone who is 45 and lives in a place where everyone shows the effects of environmental ageing fairly early - those "first fine lines" show up around our eyes in our twenties and late teens here - I think Madonna looks very good for 50. I think she looks ten years younger, not 20. And I agree, if she gained some weight she'd look much better.
I saw footage of her and Lourdes in Malawi on the weekend and was even more amazed at how much Lourdes looks like Young Madonna. It's always been noticeable in photos but in action it's incredible. It underlines how much Madonna's looks have actually changed.

Re: I'd Say Makeup Is Abooouuuut... 30% of It
so true
i dislike this kind of photoshopping retouching so much. these magazines models look so plasticky perfect they make us the real women feel bad about ourselves. and then when we have our own photoshoot we would want something similar and then we'll end up not able to look at ourselves in the mirror. the world is becoming so fake it's so sickening.
04-02-2009 09:14 PM #21Re: I'd Say Makeup Is Abooouuuut... 30% of It
I subscribe to some of the top fashion magazines - I love all this stuff. But the airbrushing is so obvious that I can't believe anybody believes these people really look like this. I mean, they have no pores.
Ever since the age of six when I found my mother's secret stash of makeup she had when she was modeling, it's been a love affair with cosmetics that I've carried on with since. And when I wear makeup I do feel I look better. But there are some days, no matter what, it doesn't help much. And when you are going through a rough spot, that is still going to show through.
What I'm getting at is yes, Madonna looks fantastic at 50. But she has always had this disrespectful, bitchy attitude on anything she doesn't agree with; and no matter how much or how artfully and skillfully applied her makeup, etc., is what is inside her comes out more and more as she gets older. Let's face it - beauty has so many layers but hers gets old really fast.

Did you ever see the More interview with the unretouched Jaime Lee Curtis? No makeup, no retouching, bra and boy shorts, back fat and all. Love her.

Re: I'd Say Makeup Is Abooouuuut... 30% of It
I thought of that immediately when I saw this. I have great respect for her for doing that.
I also thought I was a crappy MUA until I realized how much Photoshop comes into play. Many are not even expected to deal with simple blemishes and scars because it is assumed that they will be Photoshopped out so don't even bother.Last edited by Azhia; 04-03-2009 at 07:49 PM.

Re: I'd Say Makeup Is Abooouuuut... 30% of It
What I find enlightening about that Glen Feron website is that when I first see an image, I think "it looks as if it has had a little Photoshop." Then I look at the real photo, and it's not till after that that I realise just how plastic the person looked in the retouched version. It's become so normal to see pictures that look like that.

wow! That is a great retouching site!
I love Jamie Lee Curtis, she is awesome. If it wasn't for her I would of never known. Even though my mother tried telling me for years.
