Where do you get your jewelry?
Well, I'm slowly building up a decent costume wardrobe. I have some good basic colors and a variety of skirts to mix and match (I tend to go with the older style bra/belt/full skirt combo...lycra is NOT my friend). Anywho, I've decided that I need to spruce up my jewelry collection as well. I've checked place like Claire's...and that's just mostly teeny bopper stuff, though at prom-time I can sometimes find some pretty things.
So, where do you get your jewelry? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, definitely not over $50 for say a necklace and earring set. I'm hard on jewelry and have a terrible habit of losing it. I'd hate to spend a ton only to lose it! Also, what kind of jewelry do you typically wear? I tend to wear bracelets alot, but is it better to go with gauntlets or cuffs? And are those easy to make?
So yeah, talk jewelry with me!

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
I ted to get a lot of jewelry from India. Lots of sparkles but not a lot of cash. Ebay has several vendors who are good. If Cab is your style, this is an excellent way to go!

Do you have any vendors in particular that you would suggest?

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
The company which I used to buy from is apparently no longer selling on E-bay. My suggestion if you go this route is to look for a vendor here in the US who has plenty of good feed back.
There is one lot of jewelry currently listed which I would be tempted to buy, but the vendor doesn't have any feedback. And they are in India. They look brand new, so I would be a little leary.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
Well thanks anyway! :) I never, ever buy from brand new sellers. I'm too worried about being swindled!

Depends, I guess. Rhinestones I check out department stores for. Sometimes I make my own stuff, but that takes time that I sometimes don't have.
If you want something more unusual or very unique you can always shop thrift stores for vintage jewelry. Latifa has some very pretty vintage necklaces, etc. in the retail swap forum. You could always email & ask what she's got in a certain color or price range.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
No, but we've got a lot of pawn shops ..l;, Flea markets can be good sometimes, too.
Let's see..there's the thrift store on post, and seems like there's a flea market every weekend out towards Belton. My DH says he's been to that one & he thought everything was priced too high, though, so I dunno. There's Busey's Flea Market, but that's in Schertz, down closer to San Antonio... *thinks more*

Oh, I know...this place is working alive with pawn shops! lol
Hmmm, I might make a trip to Lampasas. They might have some antique stores. Salado probably does, but everything there is waaay pricey.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
If you have a clear rhinestone set and an aurora rhinestone set you'll be able to match almost anything.
I find stuff on ebay- and also I buy from Latifa, right here on Bhuz. http://www.bhuz.com/forum/belly-danc...e-jewelry.html

I do have a clear and aurora, but was hoping to find something a little more colorful.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
I buy mine from one of those Asian Beauty Supply stores. You know those cheap places that have lots of wigs and make-up and jewelry. They have great costume jewelry.

Check out local departments stores (Macy's, Belk, Kohl's, etc.) when they are having sales. Nice big fake rings and other jewelry, especially if you are looking for sparkly, non-tribal things.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
Ooooh, I never thought of that. We have a really great place here in town like that. I've only went there for hair, never looked at their jewelry though. I don't go in very often because the saleswoman is VERY aggressive. lol But I've gotten some cute falls there.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
i 'third' latifa! some stuff IS over $50, but since they're vintage, they have HEFT, so you'd KNOW if you're about to lose it...:p, and they're so fabulous you'll either display it, or store it really carefully.....
90% of my better stuff is from her, including a couple pieces i wear as 'civilian' :p

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
Etsy may be a good place to browse. I've seen pretty things that are fairly inexpensive.
If you have the patience, consignment shops might have what you're looking for. Big department stores usually have some cheap jewelry that holds up well. Costume swaps or workshops with big selling areas are another good place to look.

You can find surprisingly good (and cheap) stuff and Claire's Boutique and Forever 21. Target and Kohls also have some great stuff.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
I make my own mostly. But no time to right now. I usually go to Burlington Coat Factory. Lately I have been hitting the jackpot there with nice bling for under $10.00. I haven't purchased yet from Latifa but she has some really beautiful sparklies.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
If you have ethnic shops in your area, give then a whirl. I once walked into a sari fabric store only to find the awesomest jewelry store tucked inside in a corner. You could get big stoned, bright colored earrings for 10$.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
This is what I do, too. We have Asian-owned jewelry/handbag stores all over the place where you can pick up crappy rhinestone necklace/earring sets for about $10 or nice ones for about $20. It's worthwhile to buy the nice ones since the crappy ones rarely make it through a set.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
For you guys in Texas, if there's a Sam Moon anywhere close to you, they've got lots of rhinestone jewelry, fashion scarves and such for not bad prices. The only one I know of is in Dallas. They've got an online store, it looks like, but I thought the selection at the brick-and-mortar was better.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
Sure thing;) My Gran lives in Garland, so my mom goes up to visit a lot--if I knew they'd sell, I could put in an order and then post the haul on the swap-thread for people to look through--she's a shop-aholic anyway.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
I know--I was just eyeballing some of those stretch bracelets. You can't buy that many rhinestone components in a bag for that price. Fear me, Bracelet, for I would take you apart, and do naughty, naughty things....
I emailed my mom and mentioned the Sam Moon envy--she got me these earrings there.Last edited by clovis; 06-01-2009 at 07:38 PM.

Re: Where do you get your jewelry?
Oh I know...the stretch bracelets are fabulous. I usually wear stretch bracelets to help keep bangles on. I have tiny wrists, so bangles tend to fly off of me. lol

Would you believe I've gotten lucky at a couple of JC Penney stores? And Forever 21 as well as Charlotte Russe have had some interesting things.
If you are looking for good belly rings, I've always had good luck at Piercing Pagoda. No tarnishing and no turning my belly green!
