I hurt
So, I was a tiny bit stupid this weekend and I went to the gym. I did my usual 5K on the treadmill and then stretched and then I went up to the classroom to see if I could use the mirrors to practice dance.
There was a class going on, which i got suckered into. Group power which is a 1 hour long weightlifting class, full of lifts and squats, lunges and curls. Then I went to work where I lifted heavy trays of food for 8 hours.
I woke up Sunday really sore. But, I had to dance last night, so i went and sat in the gym's hot tub and that helped a lot. Last night, I performed and during my second set it was like my legs were on FIRE. Came home, took a hot shower and went to bed.
Now I'm at work and I can barely move. It hurts to cross my legs, it hurts to uncross them. it hurts to stand, sit, walk... heck, even my BOOBS hurt because I did veil work last night and my pecs are angry.
I know i did this myself, but until i can get back to the hottub tonight, is there anything I can do here at the office? I have ibprofen, but I wasn't sure if that would help overworked muscles.

Re: I hurt
I'd take the ibuprofen, I think it would help a little. And then just listen to your body and try to do as little as possible. I hope the hot tub helps!

Re: I hurt
Take the ibuprofen and warm up and stretch your muscles out. Muscle pain is caused by tiny tears in the muscles and even though it felt good to get into that hot tub, it's actually not good and caused you more pain. You should have taken a cold shower after exercising that hard. IMO.
Drink a cup of coffee and take the ibuprofen, warm up and stretch. I will help ease the pain a little.

Re: I hurt
I would drink TONS of water. It could be you have a lot of lactic acid build up!
For future reference: Cold is always better right after you have done something (a potential injury), it prevents swelling etc. Heat you typically add later on after the swelling has gone down to help losen things up. You MAY have had some swelling going on even the morning after and heat just makes that worse.
I would say just rest and drink lots of water for a couple of days!

Re: I hurt
Yes, mmouse1534 is right - muscles secret lactic acid when you lift weights and drinking lots of water will help (Lactic acid is a bacteria added in milk processing and it's also in your body to help break down food and build muscle).
I don't know if that makes the difference on why you are sore today, but I would suggest that moving around to warm up and than stretching will help. I do that when I over work my muscles and it helps, a lot! I know, it will hurt to do the stretches but you will see the difference. Just do some gentle stretching. You can go into the ladies room and stretch your leg muscles and if your arms hurt you can use the wall to stretch them and plus the coolness of the wall helps too. To do this (if it's your underarm and pec muscles) lift your arm up and reach to your back, lean against the wall - your side would be touching the wall, with your hand reaching towards your shoulder blades. If you can do this on one of the modesty panels - all the better.
Did you stretch after working out? That's so important that you do that after any exercise.Last edited by Jaseena; 04-13-2009 at 12:35 PM.

Re: I hurt
STRETCH. That always helps lessen the soreness, also massage the muscles. (but not the boobs while at the office... I can see that one going badly)

Re: I hurt
I believe generally, people are more sore the day after the workout or even the day after that. I don't really know why... anyway~ my solution is vodka. Lots of vodka for about 3 days until the pain has subsided to the point walking is again plausible.
Just kidding! I prefer Aleve for a pain reliever; also, while I've not done it myself, have heard an Epsom salt bath is helpful in reducing soreness.

Re: I hurt
I have had good results from a combo of Epsom salt baths and arnica gel.

Re: I hurt
Ooh, yes~ arnica! I forgot to mention that; very helpful in gel and pellet forms.
I'm not as crazy as you but I did the elliptical yesterday (20 minutes at level 5, level 20 being the max) and ralked (ran/walked) a mile and a half today and I'm wiped. No vodka in the house but the wine is mighty fine! ..g.
