Thread: What color underskirt with this?

Polling for what color underskirt you'd wear with this (if you'd wear one).

From Dahlal I ordered the Pleated Handkerchief Shimmer Skirt. The color I got isn't listed anymore (weird, was there earlier today), but if you look at the Double Layer Pleated Shimmer Skirt & the small pic of the really green one, that's the one I got, but in the hankie hem. And actually in that pic the belt shown is part of the bedleh I ordered as well (also not listed anymore as of this afternoon, double weird).

Anyway, I can see it's going to be a bit sheer & I don't mind a little leg being seen but w/a hankie hem I don't want people focusing on my knees while shimmying, etc. (which I have a tendency to do when I see stuff like that, even before I danced). If you were going to wear an underskirt with it, what color would you pick (white? green? other color?) and would you go with single layer chiffon circle or a chiffon panel? Or other?

Yeah, except for a black panel skirt over silver harem pants, I've never really layered before, I'm boring, I know. ..g.:

Tricky- I'd probably want to go with the colours of the irridescence, maybe the vivid green or a turquoise, or a pearly white (if you can get a good sheeny finish to the fabric, something like an oyster silk finish). Depends on how the irridescence comes out in real life.

Also it would depend on what I'm planning to wear it with- that hipbelt in the dahlal pic? Looks like there are minty green accents, so maybe a pale green, or a white gold lamé.

It's a glorious shade of green, and I can see it working well with strong contrasts too, deep rich purple, scarlet, cerulean blue, buttercup yellow... the possibilities are endless!

I was going to say a purple :) Green and purple look fab together! Im a sucker for layering and using contrasting colours!

Yup the belt in the pic is the belt of the bedleh I ordered. The base color is pale yellow & the bra has the same flora/fauna/leaves motif on it with rhinestone strand & stones, stones are on the belt I believe (hard to see in pics).

I'm spooked by layering because I feel like a shorty (5'4") & am pear-shaped so I don't want to draw too much attention downward.

I'd like a bright green & purple bedleh with gold accents actually - mardi gras colors! My Louisiana husband would be so happy, lol.

I think at 5'4" you shouldn't be nervous about layering. I have seen shorter dancers do 3 panel skirts with two or three layers well. It's in how you wear them!

If the bedlah has yellow in it, could you go with a yummy butterscotch yellow skirt? Chiffon if you can find it because it is less bulky.

Have fun layering and experimenting with different colours :) I often change around and try new combos-its almost as if you have a couple of costumes instead of just 1 :)
