    Quick and nutritious breakfast idea

I picked up this little gem of an idea from a friend who got it at a Weight Watchers meeting. She said it was 3 points for those of you who track that. It's 170 calories for those of you who track calories.

Mix 1/2 cup of lowfat vanilla yogurt (I use Stoneyfield Farms Organic) with 1/2 cup of All Bran cereal.

It's pretty good and I generally don't like yogurt. Plus, with all the fiber in the cereal, it's very filling.

Great topic! I'm going to offer one up too. It's from [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Table-Two-Joanne-Stepaniak/dp/1570670196/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1239726840&sr=1-2]Amazon.com: Table for Two: Joanne Stepaniak: Books[/ame]

    Breakfast Burrito:
Spread PB&J on a warmed whole wheat tortilla. Roll half a banana in it.

Oh, that's a great one Leyla. I'm going to suggest that to my boyfriend. He's a PB&J addict.

I grew up on those PB&J tortillas. It's so good with the peanut butter all melting. Everyone in my family likes them.

Oooooh, Layla, I am going to try that (I eat many a PB and Bananna sandwich for lunch, lol)!

My typical breakfast is to take a handful of dried fruit chunks (no sugar added when I can get that) and put it in a cup, then add hot water and one packet of instant quaker oats.

One thing I learned. . . the generic instant oats in the store here actually have SUGAR in them (whereas the Quaker does not).

I like to mix some cottage cheese with my steel cut oatmeal and then sprinkle some pumkin pie seasoning on top. Yum!

(although I can't seem to be able to eat un-rinsed cottage cheese. I have to rinse away the goo or it makes me wanna gag. am I weird?)

What about alternative yogurt, like that made with coconut milk?

I always have a granny smith apple, quartered with (not too much) low fat peanut butter on it. Its healthy and yummy! Loaded with fiber and protein.

We eat yoghourt for protein and fruit because it's good for you. Do you ever find yourself wistfully wondering if a fruit trifle with jelly, custard and cream would be just as good?

Wow yogurt and granola is one of my favorite breakfasts. PB&J is great too.

I've also become a smoothie addict since I got a WS stick blender. I use frozen fruit, yogurt, soy milk and a bit of agave. Sometimes I put in some spirolina or nut butter. The stick blender can just be rinsed off, so clean up is easy.

Yogurt is too sweet for me (made with real milk or substitutes). Fruit + yogurt is definitely too sweet for me. I used to enjoy it, though!

Is Greek yogurt too sweet as well? I find it more tart, the plain anyway.

I have a sweet tooth, and eating healthy have always been a struggle for me. So, I tried making alternatives to my favorite desserts. This one is the next best thing to blue-berry cheesecake, without all the extra calories and fat.

Take a whole-wheat multigrain bread, toast it. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese spread and another thin layer of blue-berry filling or preserves. Yummy! Eat your sandwich topless. Not at all fat free, but it will surely make your palate say "thank you!"

Thanks Shahla! I have Gestational Diabetes and can only have 1 1/2 carbohydrate exchange and 1 protein in the a.m. It doesn't include fruit.

I just found out last week that I will need to stick with this diet after I have the baby, if I don't want the real diabetes in the future. I was hoping they would change it up a little. So this is great for me! You get sick of the Plain yogurt or cottage cheese or Light English muffin routine gets lame. I do like Light and Fit, but I can only have the Vanilla one. I usually add Almonds, but boring after awhile.

I've recently discovered Ezekiel bread and I'm a huge fan of a slice with a tiny bit of pb or cheese, fruit, just about anything. :) Greek yogurt and honey is also a favorite... not always super low in points, but so filling.

I have a recipe at home that I will try to remember to look up and post but I think it's pretty much raw almonds and water blended until milk-like. I think any nut milk is made like this but I'll double check. (I'm sure Google, Vegetarian Times or raw food sites would turn up recipes as well.)

I love ezekiel bread! It makes the best sandwiches with hummus, tomato and avocado.

My favorite breakfast now is the Green Smoothie. It's basically a bunch of fruit blended up, I add a fat like nut butter or coconut oil, then flax or hemp seeds, and then either spinach or kale. The green blends right in, and it looks green, but tastes fruity!

I put it all together in the fridge at night, pop it in the blender in the morning, and then drink it on the way to work. It fills me up and makes me energetic.
