Don't it make my grey hair brown ...

Well I think it might, but I'm not sure.

    HRT that is!

I've been on it now for a couple of months, so far so good, and the other day I was thinking - ooooh it's been about 5 weeks since the last root touch-up - and I looked at my roots, and there were fewer of them. Same amount of hair, far less grey, more brown.

So yesterday at the doctor's I asked her if she'd heard of this side effect / phenomenon before. She said that she hadn't, but it wouldn't surprise her if it were true.

I have heard in the past that one of the Vitamin Bs restores colour to grey hair, but not HRT.

    Anyone heard of this before?

PS I wasn't sure if this was "off-topic" or "beauty", so apologies if this thread is in the wrong place

PPS my boobs have grown too. I like that!

DARN, it hasn't worked for me! My formerly red hair is still . . . white. Thank heaven for henna!

Interesting. I have no idea but the theory kind of makes sense.

interesting! I guess the way to tell whether it's an illusion or not would be if you found some grey hairs that were brown at the root.

Well it's not bothering me the way it used to so I'll let it grow a bit longer then I'll be able to tell a bit better.

God, I hope that doesn't happen to me if I start to take it. I LIKE my hair this colour.

Some people find this to be true when they take HGH, which obviously is a hormone, so, why not with HRT?

I noticed quite a few greys a few months back - enough to accept that pulling them out was not the way to go - but there seem to be less now. I could be getting used to it of course, or maybe it really does go in phases.

Hormones do affect the growth cycle of the hair follicles; it's quite usual to get lovely thick hair in pregnancy as the normal hair loss slows, then alarming fall-out as you go back to "normal" (normal, ha!). So if you are hanging on the the brown ones longer, the grey ones will be harder to find.

Well to be honest I was thinking of getting my hair cut short and then stop colouring it to let the grey through - I really like grey hair if it's shiny and in good condition. But having to grow it all over again would have been a right old bind.

I like your hair though - so it's natural huh?

Don't they just - when I was pregnant with my second child I lost a big patch of hair and had to do a comb-over like an old man over the bald patch. It was vile!

But as I've got older it has become more curly and a little more coarse, so it'll be interesting to see what happens now.

I know of people who's hair has fallen out through chemo etc and it's grown back completely differently (colour, texture, thickness). Odd stuff, hair. Apparently our toenails and fingernails are made of the same thing. And rhino horns too, so I am led to believe.

Your hair looks fabulous... .are you telling me thats natural grey! I have grey hair under the dye, but it's long and I'm so wanting to go silver but cannot face cutting it all off. My hair is very thick and long, so I don't want to go short just yet. Any tips on going grey?

YOu have great hair...so thick and glossy. I was only remarking about it to Shell the other week. My hair is thick but coarse like a horse's tail.

If the whole length of your hair is silver covered with dye, you might be able to have the color lifted in a salon.

However, if much of the length of your hair is your original color covered with dye, you are probably out of luck. There is really no way to bleach hair totally out from brown or auburn to white without frying it. I looked into it once because I have a silver streak coming in and I wanted to hurry it along.

I agree it can look fabulous and it is very thick (I am usually more modest lol but it has always been one of my best features), but the reality of it is that if I don't smooth it out using serum and then a hairdryer and brush or some velcro rollers, it is really coarse. I wanna have a go with your hair cos yours is very like mine in texture. And it's so long!

I do wish there was a safe way of removing old hair dye so that we could let our silver through cos it does look really good I think. Ah well.

The great debate of does a pro dancer have grey hair or keep dying it, always reminds me of that scene from Sex in the City when Samantha grows her bush back and finds it's all grown back grey. When it's suggested there's nothing wrong with having grey pubes she screams..... "Nobody wants to **** grandma's pussy!!!' hahahahaha

Yup, it's real. I started going grey very young (first hair at 14).

I let my hair go natural twice. First time was in the early-mid 90s when I was 30, and it wasn't as white as it now is. I had a choppy jaw-length layered bob at the time and I just grew it out. It were all grunge round there in those days so having hair that was a few different colours wasn't that bad. I suppose it took about six, eight months to get it completely natural? The dark tint fades so the line is not so obvious the longer it grows.

Second time was much more dramatic. It was dark brown, a hell of a lot whiter this time, and bra-strap length. I cut it to jaw length (much how I'd had it 10 or so years earlier),waited till I had an inch at the root and cut it all off. I had sort of "ermine ends" on the bits I allowed to be longer than that, which looked quite nice. Something else I did, which might work for you as a person who doesn't want to cut it, was cut a section about half an inch deep at my hairline, as short as I possibly could, and just let it grow down. That showed me the colour next to my skin, as it grew, and gave me an indicator of how long my uncoloured hair actually was. You could try that as a section round the front, and as it starts to grow down, and if it looks good, keep taking deeper sections that don't get recoloured behind it. Also replace a full head tint with increasingly small amounts of lowlights.

Stripping the colour is a *massive massive* job and I'm not convinced they ever get all the yellow out, so you would then need some kind of toner on top.

People who've never dyed do better. Aisha Ali has long mostly white hair from what I've seen and it looks very Beautiful Ageless Mystic Woman.

You know, white hair on the head is fine. White hair in the brow or the bush is cause for screams of anguish...
