Thread: Lobster dance costume!!

This TECHNICALLY isn't a bellydance costume but it IS my 5 year old son's first Dance costume. I just finished it and had to share!!! He is "Sebastian" from the Little mermaid. THere are about 10 Ariel's and him. I don't think I will be able to stop laughing AND crying at his dance recital!!

I was thrilled when my daughter wanted to dance but I am over the moon that my son loves it!! I'm trying to encourage it for as long as I can...I have an 8year old son that won't have anything to do with dance :(

I've tried sooo hard not to "bling" it out!LOL My first instinct is to put sequins on everything!!
If I made a "lobster themed" costume I would REALLY end up on the UBDC blog!! LOL Tempting!!LOL

I looked for a pattern but couldn't find any for the lobster part...I used a boy's pajama pattern for the pants and shirt and just "Winged it" for the lobster. I bought 2 meters of red felt and just started cutting!LOL I tried to take inspiration from pictures of lobster costumes on the net but there didn't seem to be many either.

Thanks everyone!! I just got the worst email....It turns out that I need to brush up on my Disney...Sebastian was a CRAB!!! Yikes...I'm not sure who said lobster..whether it was his dance teacher or me but...Off to call his dance teacher and possibly make a new shell!! LOL ever have one of those days??

I think the costume will be fine. Lobster or crab, your version looks a lot like the disney character. He sort of a lobster-shrimp-crab hybrid. he's definitely NOT round like I think of for crabs. he's got an elongated shell for sure.

I think the lobster is cuter than a crab would be. You are right Nayastrance...Sebastian doesn't really have the round shape of the crab it IS more elongated. The tail on the lobster is one of the best parts!!! I haven't talked to his dance teacher yet. I have lots of leftover fabric so if she want's it really authentic, then I will 'whip up' a crab shell. It is "uder the sea"!!..There probably were lobsters in the movie but they probably ended up on the cutting room floor!!LOL
